What’s better than beer for breakfast? How about a little Morning Wood. This Imperial version of Maple Bacon Coffee Porter is aged in Bourbon barrels for months, lending smoothness to the smokey, salty, rich combo of maple syrup, fresh roasted coffee, and bacon.

Lucky Bamboo bottle share. Pours a deep brown to black with a finger of brown head that dissipates quickly. Huge maple forward nose with vanilla and bourbon notes. Sweet on the palate, but not overly so for a pastry stout. Light smoke and more maple. Lingering bourbon heat on the finish, but overall abv hidden well. Coffee shines a bit more as it warms. As advertised. --- Beer merged from original tick of Morning Wood on 27 Jan 2018 at 19:20 - Score: 9

Bottle @ Benzai, 20 cl sample. Dark color, medium frothy head. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon, coffee, roast. Luscious vanilla sweetness in taste, chocolatey and coffee bitterness. Smooth, rich. Lovely.

Bottle @ home shared with Caesar and Dutchdrebus. Opaque black color, medium sized beige to light brown colored head that lasts for quite a while. Aroma is malts, over the top vanilla, café noir cookies, milk chocolate. Taste malts, café noir cookies again, vanilla, some bourbon coming through but the milk chocolate and vanilla annoy me, too dominant. Decent but not really my thing.

Bottle shared at Maakun’s. Very dark brown pour with a tall tan head. Notes of coffee, maple syrup, bourbon, chocolate, brownie, espresso, toasted coconut and vanilla, all really well-balanced, with the salt enhancing all the flavours just a bit more. Full body, not too thick, silky-smooth texture and, again, like most Funky Buddha beers, a perfect mouthfeel. --- Beer merged from original tick of Morning Wood on 10 Feb 2017 at 23:59 - Score: 9. Sampled from bottle at Maakun’s. Massive thanks to mariuspoenari. Big sweet and dark roasted chocolate malts. Big coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, vanilla. Medium sweet, light bitter. Full body, soft carbonation and creamy milky feel. Decent brew. I don’t really know what to write but it’s just so nice. --- Beer merged from original tick of Morning Wood on 09 Jan 2018 at 11:10 - Score: 9

Bottle shared massive thanks to mariuspoenari. Black with small light brown head. Bourbon, vanilla, deep roasted coffee, lots of nice dark chocolate, light smoke, toffee, light grape skins, cookies, light salted peanuts. Quite sweet with lasting sharp but not strong bitter finish and light salt. Just full bodied.

Bottle at RBGT. Pours very dark brown. Aroma is very roasty, caramel and vanilla. Body is medium, lots of chocolate, maple syrup, but carbonation lightens the beer for a smooth experience. Strong bourbon throughout, boozy. Nice.
