The 2014 Double DBA imperial special bitter is Firestone Walker’s flagship DBA brewed at double strength, using twice the amount of malts and hops. As with the regular DBA, the 2014 Double DBA was partially fermented in a union of new American oak barrels. After fermentation, the beer was racked and returned to the union barrels as well as bourbon barrels, where it aged for one year. The barrel mix for the 2014 Double DBA included vessels from Woodford Reserve, Elijah Craig and Four Roses.

Bottle at potje, thanks! Copper color. Aroma of raisin, booze, resinous hop, oak and caramel. Taste has raisin, booze, vanilla, bitter grassy malt, oak and a booze burn. Nice.

Thanks Steven for sharing the bottle! 2014 Vintage poured into a wineglass showing highly filtered caramel brown with no head. The nose shows a lot of bourbon with a sweet note running throughout. The palate is thin bodied with no carbonation. Bourbon forward with hints of caramel, toffee, and light figs. An extreme amount of alcoholic spiciness dominates throughout making this very difficult to appreciate.

Has mellowed out nicely compared fresh bottles. Perhaps a bit too heavy on the barrel with hints of chili.
