Flavoured Berliner Weisse (with passionfruit, lime and – weirdly – ‘beet’), a collab of this Florida craft brewer with renowned Swedish Brewski. From a 44 cl can shared with Craftmember and Steve at Bar Beenhouwer. Egg-white, loose, bubbly head, quickly disappearing into as good as nothing; hazy ochre-ish tinged apricot blonde robe. Aroma of sweet tropical fruit (mango-maracuja coulis) with the passionfruit upfront in a very dominant way, strong clear lime as well, sour grapes, sour yoghurt, lemon flesh, redcurrant, pumice. Sour onset but not harshly so, very explicitly lime-like, softly acidic edges but a whole lot of sweet passionfruit too, more intense and pronounced than the sourness; medium carb, drying sourness but the sweet passionfruit keeps dominating over a slender wheaty, cereally malt base; very light earthy touch in the finish (for all I know, this could well be the beet’s contribution), passionfruit and lime remaining dominant with a light chalky note in the end, as with most Berliner Weisses for some reason. Cocktail-like (or mocktail perhaps, at this ABV), frankly rather childish interpretation of a flavoured Berliner Weisse – way too much sweet passionfruit and perfumey lime obscure the very beer itself. Berliner Weisse in a simplistic way, a generic kettle soured beer in fact, but surely accessible to larger audiences who have no idea about the historical properties of the style.

Large can. Mineral, lemonade, lime, big zesty lime, non-alcoholic rosé, something sweet the beets in a candy way, raspberry, tasty, fruit, candy, sweetish, very nice sweeter lemonade affair, sweeter lime,…

1 pint can from Malting Pot bottle shop in Brussels. F: no real, medium yet very quick gone. C: orange, hazy. A: sour fruity, bit lactic, yoghurt, lime, bit passion fruits, green kiwi. T: puckering sour fruity, bit passion fruits, lime, bit lactic, unripe berries, light body and medium carbonation, bit oily mouthfeel, very nice and refreshing yet still bit too sour for me.

Can thanks to Adam. Pours a hazy ruby with small off white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong lime, earth, wheat. Thin body, beet juice, lime zest, nice tartness, enjoyed this.
