Tap at Craftheads event. Nice rich body, dark fruit. Prefer the bourbon version but that's my whisky preference i guess. This one is a little more subdued. Still barrel taste but mellowed. Whisky kick at the end. Sweet.
Bouteille 33cl, merci bcp à Phil aka KansaiBeerLvers.
Fall Keyaki 2015. Deep brown with a small tan head. Big maple aromas with sorghum, vanilla and wood. Pretty similar taste and maybe not that complex but lots of maple an wood again. Good dry finish with sweetness that hides the ABV very well. Extemely smooth with a rich and smooth body that leaves a stickiness on the palate. very dark brown color. Fairly pronounced iodine, oak and a touch of peat. I feel that both the bourbon and whiskey are not aged enough and given the style. That makes sense, but still another mouth or two would have been good. Fairly warming in the finish, but given that I am drinking outside on the steps of CraftHead then this makes a lot of sense.
Bottle from Yamaoka. Back, cloudy, with a bit of lace. Creamy whiskey nose, wood, vanilla, lots of chocolate, bit of citrus left, touch of cola. Bit of cabbage. Big and sweet favor, lots of chocolate and vanilla and whiskey. Some orange. Very bitter, rather boozy too. Full, smooth, silky body. Sweeter than the other, and more approachable. Tasty. Not as complex, but has come together better than the other. Nothing out of the ordinary for a whiskey barrel beer. Enjoyed it, though not perfect.
