Lost the specific text in the rating for these beers . Opened at a tasting with Armand himself . Will update rating with text when I found the papers, only scores for now .
Had this today at DHVL. Shared with with Joost and other staff since I was by myself and too full from eating a lot of stew. Very few of these still remain for purchase on-site. none for To-Go. Enjoyed @ cellar temp in a basket in a Geuze glass.
A - Orange and gold color of out only a small bit of sediment. 1 finger of creamy head. Didn’t fade at all very resilient.
S - The nose is very classically 3 F. Musty lemon grass, some salt and very present oak nose with kiwi and mango.
T - I get a minor copper penny taste that starts in the middle and sticks around for a while. Must and rotten apples with oak tannin and some pineapple and fig. Slightly cheesy with lemon and like tartness
M - Mouthfeel is full bodied, still a lot of carbonation and the copper and lemon stick around for a while
O - Like Blauw, I would have loved to have this fresh. Storage and bottle variation so I’ll say I prefer Roze to Blauw but I have no idea how Blauw was kept but this is tasting great for a beer bottled in 2001 (according to Joost).
Bottle shared at DHVL side by side with Blauw. Pours hazy dark golden with a big off white head. Aroma of barnyard funk, light wet dog and old laundry (in a good way). Flavour is light moderate acidic, fairly soft in the mouthfeel. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Great, but not up to the Blauw.
Bottle from a tasting two years ago. Label thanks to Thomas! Thank you! I’ve been looking for this for two years! Pours orange. Nose and taste of aged cheese, woody funk, oak and light barnyard. Medium body. A bit dryer on the palate than Blauw.
Bottle at Akkurat (labeled as Akkurat’s Oude Geuze 50/50). Almost clear, orange liquid with minimal white head. Aroma of 3F funk (barnyard, light sweat), sweet orange peel, lemon and some light apple. Taste is dry and medium sour with nice balance and light funk. Light to medium bodied with light to medium carbonation. Nice, but I prefer Blauw. Not as complex but nearly as balanced.
750 ml bottle shared @ Akkurat. Pours hazy deep golden with a big fizzy slightly grayish white head that is rather quick to dissipate while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is sour with horse blanket, leather, sweet grapes, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, hay, dusty barnyard, lemon zest, lemon grass, moist soil, unripe currants, earthy brett and hints of dusty oxidation. Taste is sour and earthy with grapefruit juice, green grapes, gooseberries, red currants, hay, moss, ripe apples and dry wood. Mouthfeel is tart, dry and medium bodied. Finish is tiny sour and tart with grapefruit juice, lemon zest, hay, barnyard and dry soil. Nothing too advanced. Just pure awesome! --- Beer aliased from original tick of Akkurat's Oude Geuze 50/50 on 23 Dec 2018 at 01:39 - Score: 9. Original review text: EB
Bottle @ Too many Geuze’s - only one toilet , Ulfborg 2012 - Day 1. Dark golden , slightly hazy with a little orange hue and white head. Aroma is sweet malty, very flowery and fruity, little tartness, barnyard. Just lovely. Taste even though not as great as the aroma is very nice, fruity, berries, citrus, barnyard, wood, leather, flowers. Very complex yet greatly balanced. Another great one !
12/12/13/11/11/12
