Bottle @ Ulfborg Gueuze Tasting thanks to Fonefan. Pours hazy bright orange with a big fluffy white head. Aromas of forrest floor, lots of funk, bright orange, lemon, light vinegar. Taste has lots of sour apples, grapes, funk, vinegar, light umami. Nice!
Corked bottle. Pale amber color. Lemon, oak, honey and gooseberries in the aroma. Sour flavor with lemon, oak, pineapple, and gooseberries. Well rounded. Could be more complex but the bottle is still quite young.
Bottle shared @ home. Deep orange colour, creamy foam. Very complex nose, dry, light sweet and tart. Some peppery notes along with fruitiness. Easy drinkable, very very nice gueuze.
Bottle from the brewery. Grapefruit and leather in the nose. Cloudy gold with a good head. Great flavor of leather, old books, grapefruit, low level of sourness. Lovely balance with great citrus and lots of barnyard. Silky, with great, soft carbonation. Awesome. Wish I had another chance to drink these all side by side.
Bottle - Very light funk. Cloudy gold with a small frothy head. Light funk and very mellow and some tartness. The mildest of the three, not bad, just not as exceptional as the rest.
750 ml bottle at Gueuze tasting 2016, Ulfborg. Light hazy golden orange color with off white head. Yeasty aroma, barnyard, dusty, wood, grapes, citrusy fruity, orange and lemon. Sweet and acidic taste like aroma, funky tart fruity. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.
Jim/John is back tasting. Bottle courtesy of kermis. Murky ochre, offwhite head. Apricot, mineral, milky, white raisans, grapes, hay, cobwebs, little dust, faint woodglue. Medium smooth sour, light salty. Creamy silky and minerallike texture. Enjoying this!
Bottle shared at the John/Jim tasting. Moldy on the cork which explosively popped out across the room as it came loose. Cloudy amber with an off white head. Aroma of dusty funk, dry cellar, cobwebs, leather, lactic touchs, yoghurt, barnyard, light citrus and tart light fruit. Flavour is light sweet and moderate sour. Medium bodied with light carbonation. Nice, but certainly not up there with some of the better 3 Fonteinen gueuzes
Bottle shared at John almost got killed by a cork tasting, thanks to kermis for sharing. Hazy dark golden, almost copper with big light beige head. Lots of hay, farmyard, dank cellar, especially on the nose. In the taste there’s some lactic and yoghurt notes, dead leaves, some sherry, quite earthy. Under medium sour with light lactic sweetness throughout. Medium bodied with slight sticky feel and champagne-like carbonation. A bit disappointing to be honest.
