Bottle, 2014, at share, thanks to me. Pours dark brown. Raisin, toffee, biscuit, caramel, nutty, fruity, cherry, milk chocolate. Medium body. Very good.
Bottled 7 SEP 2013. Huge thanks Ryan for sharing! Murky brown body, no head. Chocolate, coconut and vanilla fight in the aroma with some caramel, light alcohol and further barrel notes, which don't stand out as much. Soft taste, chocolate and coconut again, more caramel, almost heading towards stout territory, but still firmly grounded in barleywine territory, some oxidised maltiness, smooth, with a light kick in the finish, light herbal bitterness too shows in the finish, fairly well hidden alcohol in the taste. Excellent!
1 American Pint (cca 500ml) bottle (14,4%) as 2017 Release bottled 06OCT17 from trade with petrinoda, many thanks man. F: thin to no real, quick gone. C: dark brown, hazy. A: rich malty, mellow fruity, bit vinous, bit chocolate, dried figs, marmalade, mead, bit red berries. T: full malty base, mellow fruity, vinous, honey, chocolate, bit woody, tobacco traces, bit nutty, light oily mouthfeel, almost no carbonation, perfectly balanced for the style, fully enjoyed, great beer.
2014. Super boozy, heavy barrel flavor
Rating numbah 100! Once again I was lucky enough to be given free Bourbon County variations in the line for the Blåbær Lambic release. Pours coffee black with a tanned medium frothy head. Looks sooo good. Aroma of booze and raisins, chocolate and coffee. Some caramel malt and some sweet dried fruits. Taste is alike, more burned caramel and dark chocolate. Intense bourbon and caramel finish. Rerating 24/10/2014. Bottle. Pours murky brown with thin light brown edges. Aromas of raisins, barley, rye, oak, vanilla, caramel sweets, coffee and some chocolate. Taste is very sweet dark fruits, that trademark bourbon county whisky taste, coffee, rye, vanilla, some light chocolate, caramel.
Classic barleywine, lots of bourbon, all I expected. Malty, thick, rich and bittersweet. Bourbon adds a nice softness, nicely smooth mouthfeel. Proves again that a beer doesn't need additives to be great.
2016 bottle, 13.6%. Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Maltsugar, toffee, oak, soft herbal notes in the aroma. Full bodied, boozy. Candy sugar, malt, lots of bourbon. Toffee, oak and vanilla in the quite alcoholic, but also complex flavor. Massive, but I like it.
Bottle on different occasions. Rating a 2014 had 2019. Deep reddish brown with almost no head. Dried fruit overload with prunes, dates. Some caramel sauce, vanilla, oak. Quite boozy overall, but a very nice sipper.
2017 bottle shared at Lucky Bamboo for Aaron's birthday. Pours a deep caramel colored amber with a finger of off-white foam that dissipates. Lots of prune, fig and raisin aromas on the nose with milk chocolate caramel, dried vanilla bean and toffee as it warms. Rich and decadent on the palate. Yes, it's sweet, but there's toasted malt and woody notes to balance out the sweetness. A year and half in the heat has toned down and it's really smooth and mellow. Would pair immaculately with cheese cake. Lingering bourbon oak, vanilla, toffee coated chocolate, cacao nib and prunes. --- Beer merged from original tick of Bourbon County Barleywine on 06 Jun 2019 at 20:17 - Score: 8.
