Belgian Style - Strong Ale Regular
Score
7.70
ABV: 9.0% IBU: - Ticks: 51
This beer (9% ABV) is a very dark red in colour. It has a very complex, yet very powerful soul. The hops and spices involved in its brewing process only add more zing to its flavour. Despite its density, this beer is easy to digest.

Smaakvol. Wel een klein beetje ijzer in de smaak helaas. Verder prima.

33cl bottle from Beerwulf webshop. F: thin, tanned, quick gone to thin film. C: dark brown, coppery hue against the light, hazy. A: rich malty, chocolate, cocoa, dark dried fruits, plums, raisins, nutty, bit spicy. T: full malty base, chocolate, herbal-spicy, mellow dark fruits, dried plums, bit red wine, caramel, nutty, molasses, bit yeasty, soft carbonation, very nice even if it lacks some “wau factor” for me.

Great beer, but not worth the top 50 position IMO. Dutch Ratebeer meeting, 1 1/2 litre bottle. Chunks of yeast floating. Orange liquor aroma. Malty, alcoholic flavor . Orange, peppery and a hint of chocolate. A bit too much of everything to earn a top rating. In der Beschränkung zeigt sich der Meister (in the limitation the real master comes up).

750ml bottle. Pours a murky red-brown with lots of yeast particles that settle in the bottom of the glass and a medium, creamy, long lasting, tan head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, toffee, raisin, prune, plum, dried apricot, Belgian yeast and spice. Sweet, complex flavour of caramel malt, bread, chocolate, molasses, brown sugar, cherry, prune, raisin, plum, overripe apple, spice, earth and Belgian yeast with a dry, mild, booze warming finish. Medium body with a creamy, smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Excellent, ABV is well hidden. A great sipping beer, lots of complexity.

0.33 l bottle from 'Belgiuminabox.com', best before January 2019. Slow Gusher. Clear, very dark red with a medium large, dense and slightly creamy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Sweetish, malty, rather fruity and moderately yeasty-spicy aroma of strawberry jam, figs, some molasses and a touch of oak. Quite sweet, moderately bitter, malty, quite fruity and slightly yeasty-spicy taste of strawberry jam, figs, candied cherries, some molasses, dessert wine and some marzipan, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, slightly yeasty-spicy, minimally tart and a bit boozy finish with hints of oxidation. Over medium-bodied, smooth, slightly creamy and quite effervescent mouthfeel, sparkling carbonation. Quite complex, superbly balanced, lots of fruitiness, appealing appearance and a pleasant mouthfeel. Pretty good but not outstanding.

Pours unclear, murkey, dark brown. muddy? or milkchocolaty ? pick what sounds best, i'd say, so lets call this milkchocolaty. Good and rather stable, creamy white head. Smell is sweet, caramelly, toffee. taste is sweet, but very complex. very earthy, caramelly, port-notes, but not due to age. Very silky and smooth. fall-leaves, a walk trough the forest pops in my mind. mild milkchocolaty notes as well. Very, very nice ! Decent mouthfeel and carbo, too. Awesome. Earlier Rating: 4/10/2014 Total Score: 3.7Bottle at kulminator . 75 cl , 2007 vintage Pours dark brown , almost no head Smells very liquorish , not really port though . Rather low carbo . Much carbo , wood , faded chocolate , intense and complex , bit portorized .

Bottle at home. Clear dark mahogany with a bit fizzy dark beige head that looks like a cola head at first, but leaves a nice film. Looks very good. Massive brown sugar, toffee, raisins, light milk chocolate, dates, dried peach, some cognac. Very decandent aroma. Taste is over medium sweet and with some alcoholic bitterness. Almost full bodied with a slick feel and a bit low carbonation. Slightly let down by the palate. Still a really good beer, Rochefort it’s not, but it’s damn tasty.

Clear deep amber brown colour, small frothy beige head, mostly diminishing, good lacing. Aroma roasted malts, dark fruits, raisins, caramel, spices (cloves, cinnamon, bay leaf), brown sugar, light chocolate, alcohol. Taste light heavy sweet and light to medium bitter, malty, toffee, fudge, spices, fortified wine, some alcohol, with long duration leading to a sweetbitter finish with spicy and nutty notes, warming alcohol. Full-bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation, very complex, smooth and balanced strong ale, a sheer delight, excellent.
