Traditional top-fermentation beer that referments in the bottle. Brewed by the unique family brewery De Halve Maan, which has been located in the historical heart of Bruges since 1856. Straffe Hendrik is an authentic Belgian Triple beer, still brewed according to the original recipe.
Straffe Hendrik Tripel is a golden triple with a sturdy white collar. The aroma is spicy with hints of black pepper, coriander and ginger, and is even insinuating the presence of oranges.
The beer is brewed with a selection of Saaz and Styrian hops of a very high quality. The subtle blend of six special varieties of malt gives the beer a well-balanced and powerful taste.
The palate initiates a hint of caramel, soon flowing into a certain bitterness. In the finish one can discover citrus fruits and even subtle flavours of banana.
The triple has an alcohol percentage of 9° and the refermentatation in the bottle generates a long natural shelf life.
EBC 19, 19.5° plato.

330ml plastic bottle poured from keg, purchased from Smiling Grape. My first Tripel and highest ABV to date. Muddy amber, thin but well formed head, retention good. Aroma is sweet and malty with stone fruits, spice and a hint of yeast. Taste is semi-sweet, big malts and stone fruit notes, apricot, spice, some banana. Moderate body and very smooth mouthfeel. Very low carbonation and reading the reviews this maybe keg related rather than pouring from keg to bottle but I cant be sure. Despite the carbonation this is a very good. Complex with plenty of malt depths.

330ml bottle. Poured a hazy light amber colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is earthy mineral, yeasty, light toffee caramel. The flavour is moderate sweet and bitter, with a crisp, caramel malt, light warm boozy alcohol palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. --- Beer merged from original tick of De Halve Maan Straffe Hendrik Brugs Tripelbier 9° on 09 Jan 2013 at 14:51 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7. Original review text: Bottle at Huppel the Pub, Den Haag. Poured a cloudy reddish amber with a thick long-lasting white head. The aroma is fresh and yeasty. The flavour is bitter, yeasty and with some alcohol burn in the palate giving a nice lingering bitterness. A great Tripel, but I’m not a fan of the style.

Bottle. Light amber color. Dried citrusfruit in the aroma. Sweet, almost sugary, somewhat yeasty and alcoholic flavor. Some citrus notes. Slightly herbal and not unpleasant.
