Bottled, at AndySnow tasting. Dark brown, small head. Aroma of milk chocolate and brandy. Sweet with full body and rounded mouthfeel. Coconut, caramel and maple syrup. Mildly warming finish.
Dark black pour with actually some foam on top. Chocolate nose, toffee and some caramel candy and of course light bitterness there. Taste is milk chocolate, cocoa and toffee. Some brandy booze there but well balanced and blended in. Booze finish but sweet and really tasty, some vanilla added. Nom-nom.
Bottle, courtesy of VastActiv. Pours darkest brown with almost no head. Aroma is vanilla, oak, coffee, little chocolate and caramel. Body is very heavy and sweet, strongly boozy and intense. Little carbonation, but tons of oil. Feels greasy. Boozy lingering caramel palate. Somehow the barrel is most present in the nose, but it doesn't help the beer that much. Was more balanced and easier to enjoy in the non-BA version, which still wasn't lacking intensity or complexity.
Baltic porter from the Baltic - a collab of Sori and a Russian craft brewer. At BCBF. Thick and dense, creamy, pale yellowish beige head crowning an ink black beer. Aroma of hot chocolate sauce, melting caramel candy, cognac, liquorice, old vanilla beans, treacle, coffee powder and espresso, star aniseed and just a subtle touch of smokiness (tobacco). Sweet onset, candied dates, pear syrup, sourish blackberry juice notes, softish carbo, very thick and 'fatty' mouthfeel, beautifully rounded. Toasty, chocolatey maltiness with a hazelnutty edge, vanilla rising up retronasally as well as a dash of aromatic, but altogether still fairly subtle coffee; the smokiness too, like in the nose, remains subtle and elegant. Glueish solventy notes and heating, explicitly brandy-like alcohol (from the brandy barrels) show up in the end and accentuate this beer's natural spiciness. Delightful and indeed among the best Baltic porters I had so far, a few Polish and other Estonian examples aside.
Sampled at Billies Craftbeerfest 2017. Thnx for sharing, everyone ! Don't mind the visual info to much, as lighting was really bad. Pours dark to black, small to medium white head. Smell is milkchocolate, lactic-like, almost, even though it shouldn't be in here. creamy. taste is full, milkchocolate, creamy. Very sweet. lovely beer ! Didn't get the brandy that clear, but it did lift up the beer for me.
(Thank you!) Sampled draft @ Billie's Craft Beer Fest 2017. Black, tanned head. Nose is all milk chocolate, vanilla, pralines, candy, sweet sugar oak. Taste is akin to a vanilla, coconut, sugar, candy pralines, mocha, praline / pasty stout more so than a Baltic Porter but who cares it is really awesome & stupidly better than the usual one. If a hyped USA brewery had released this, the scores would be way higher.
