Bookends is our collaboration with our St. Louis friends at 4 Hands Brewing Company. Bookends represents our take on a wild ale that was brewed and conditioned with mandarin, lime, clementine juice, and orange peel. We fermented this blond beer in oak and let it age for more than a year before blending and allowing it to naturally condition in this bottle.

Pours unclear orangeblonde. No real head. Smell is citrussy ( orange) tad tart. Oak, mild funk. Taste is sharp, tart, strong acidity ( mostly lactic acid, some acetic acid) milder fruityness. Not bad. But not great.

Bottle shared at Alex's birthday. Pours a clearish gold with a finger of foam that lingers. Lovely dried citrus, tangering and iyokan aromas up front with some musty hay and straw as it warms up. More of the same on the palate with pith, tart citrus and a slight dekopon sweetness mid-palate that works well with the acidity. Light lemon towards the finish with grass, hay and funk. Great stuff. --- Beer merged from original tick of Bookends on 22 Feb 2019 at 23:39 - Score: 9
