Une des grandes classiques des stouts geeks – à introduire le café, longtemps que je ne l’avais plus dégustée, donc à voir si cette version de San Diego tient encore ses promesses.
Couleur brune/acajou, col crémeux bien tenace soyeux café au lait.
Arôme sur un bouquet bien malté avec de bons effluves de chocolat. Le café est plus en retrait avec un torréfié qui donne un parfum cependant bien plaisant. Rétro-nasal discret au niveau houblonné, pointe terreuse.
Palais est sur une base stout classique américaine, malt torréfié, caramel, pâle avec un apport houblonné plutôt américain qui donne une sensation de sécheresse – résineux/herbacé en fin de bouche, à cela se mêle le volet café. Je note tout de même un léger épicé en fin de bouche – soit du café ou d’une combinaison café et houblons.

16 oz can (no mention of 'Dark Horse Coffee', just Stout brewed with coffee) into a wine glass (twice) on 20th Dec 2019 while on holiday in California. Very dark brown body, tanned topping. Plenty of coffee esters in the aroma and coffee flavours in the taste. Carbonation seems a little high and it's not as oily or slick as I thought it might be body wise, still a very pleasant Stout though.

355ml can. Pours an opaque dark brown almost black with a small, creamy, long lasting, light brown head that laces. Nice aroma of roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate, molasses, caramel and light resin with a dry, bitter coffee finish. Full body with a creamy, smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Excellent.

Can from Gambrinus. Pours a pitch black with a finger of brown foam that lingers. Coffee, toasted molasses, cacao nib and faint blueberry. Dry with good roasty cacao bitterness. Creamy on the palate. Lingering coffee roast and faint molasses finish.

Can. Black with small stable tan head. Aroma has roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Coffee bitter flavour, roasted malt, dark syrup. Quite roasted and dry with a hint of acidity. Lively carbonation, but it gets smooth and round as it warms up a bit.
