This beer is something of a rare bird from Brouwerij de Prael. Even though Scotch Ale is a classic style of beer, we’ve given this one a distinctive twist. Brewed with smoked malt and also with our Weizen beer yeast, this beer is a real adventure.

Bottle. Amber color, hazy. Malt, caramel and licorice in the aroma. Full bodied. Malty sweet flavor with caramel, licorice, cardemom. Spicy notes, even a hint of smoke. Some bitter orange notes. Spicy bitter aftertaste. Sticky mouthfeel. Tasty beer.

Very good, dense off-white head, pitting in over shining but cloudy foxy-orange beer. Creamy & spicy nose, clove, CO² titillation, bit other grains, and a fleeting hint at Rauchmalz and wheat(malt). Sweet, but with a bitterness as from too many spices. Again, but this time very outspokenly Rauchmalz, peat, even phenolic. Again Weizenmalz hints with clove and orange. The yeast, no doubt. Quite (wheat)slck, even oily, medium bodied, good carbonation. Scotch? My wee b*m. This is a Rauchweizen in more than one aspect. 7/4/7/3/14

Smell is intense, esthers ( banana ) , some fishguts ( this is definately german ) mild hops. darker bread. . Taste is bitter. extremely ‘german’ . Fishguts. Mild bitterness. Some metallic notes. Fall leaves, bit earthy. mild chocolate undertone. Too ‘german’ for my taste.

Smoky weizen indeed, not much scotch remains. Also, unfortunately not a milk stout. Tastes good, nice and meaty, just too much carbonation. After swirling the sediment into it, it magically turns much creamier and denser, more of a lightly smoked cream ale now. Fascinating stuff.

Roasted malts, coffee, nuts, herbal touch, basement aromas, bit smoke. Hazy dark amber copper, small frothy brown-white head, fair lacing. Taste roasty bitter, brown sugar, coffee, only light sweetness. Medium body, thick feel, soft carbonation, astringent, full bitter aftertaste. Not a real Scotch in my opinion but very drinkable.

Murky, muddy orange, with a decent white head with good retention. Smells like bitter herbal hops and some caramel. The taste is bitter and surprisingly smokey, with notes of wood, peated whiskey and plastic. So, no.
