Bottle pours opaque very dark brown, with tan head. Full bodied and creamy. Roasted malt, coffee and licorice aroma. Chocolate coffee and burnt malt taste, medium bitter finish. Definite thumbs up!
Bottle from Der Doppelbock. Brewed in Frederick Brewing Co, says the label. Opagie, no head. Sugary roast aroma with milk chocolate and toffee. Rich syrupy sweet fluid with roast, coffee, licorice and chocolate. Grapes and dried fruit. Very tasty brew, but world class?
355ml bottle. Pours black with a big creamy tan head. Liquorice, coffee, roast, cream, milk chocolate, toast. Decent body. Good.
Bottle [from trade thanks!] @ home shared with Dutchdrebus. Opaque pitch black color, medium to full sized beige to mocha colored head. Aroma is malts, dark malts, some roast. Taste malts, softly roasty, roast bitter a bit. Hmm don't get much more. Quite solid, but I had higher hopes somehow.
Bottle @ benzai. Black with a small beige head. Smells coffee, roasty, caramel, Haagse hopjes. Tastes coffee, Haagse hopjes, caramel, sweet. Medium to full body, soft carbo.
Smooth malty nose. The beer starts malty dry, lots of roast with a dry and moderate bitter finish. Great depth, malty deep, fantastic.
Bottle shared with Erzengel! A black beer with a huge most good lasting tan head. Aroma of strong dark malt, liquorice, coffee. Taste of strong dark malt, liquorice, coffee, roasted malt.
Bottle, thanks luttonm! Dark brown color with small tan head. Aroma is ashes, coffee, earthy, roasted malts, liquorice. Taste is the same flavours, but quite heavy on the liquorice. Dry and bitter roasted finish. Still full-bodied. Very well-made, though I’m not the biggest fan of liquorice in beers.
Tap at Akkurats 20th anniversary. Dark mahogany brown with white head. Roasted aroma with dark chocolate, coffee and a little bit of char. Pretty silky coffee taste with roasted malt, coffee, prunes and a hint of soy sauce. Quite light and a little watery with a bitter coffee finish.
