Bottle shared, 2012 vintage. Pours thick dark brown with a small offwhite head. Aromas of heavy bourbon, vanilla, dark fruits, licorice, light oxidization, chocolate, malt. Taste is malty, vanilla, dark fruits, toffee, butterscotch, huge caramel, porty notes, subtle bitter malty notes.
Lovely malts, light fruity esters & plenty of vanilla fudge barrel. Great!
Bottle, many thanks Max! Dark brown color with tan head. Aroma is bourbon, booze, liquorice, raisin. Taste is chocolate, vanilla, bourbon and booze again, liquorice, raisins, a bit of a spicy tanginess (cinnamon maybe indeed). Silky and viscous mouthfeel. Despite the booziness it retains a nice balance. A beauty!Old bottle shared in the Blabaer line 2019. Lots of dank cellar there, but also the great balanced bourbon flavours in there too. Aged gracefully!
Bottle. Pours ruby black with a decent head. Aroma is strong bourbon, vanilla, booze. Body is super heavy and strong, boozy and sweet. Vanilla, liquorice, wood, bourbon, cinnamon. Soft carbonation, sticky texture, viscous. Long sweet nut palate. Balanced, but really strong, a classical sipper.
0.75l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. Been looking forward to this one. It pours a deep dark brown, near black body in the glass and it has a medium sized slowly sidesticking an islandy beige head. Lovely nose. Woody and vanilla infused for sure. I get chocolate, some dark sweetness soaked rum raisins. Malt spicy drops. Cinnamon spicy almost and traces of whisky. Smells really good. It tastes quite good, I have to say. More woody and vanilla infused in the taste actually. Feels thick and oily on the mouthfeel and the about average on the carbonation. A little chocolate with dark caramel and dry licorice. Lots of flavor. A really good one. 18.02.2016
Bottle - Vintage 2015 - Crazy bourbon hot woody notes. Deep dark brown with a small light brown head. Big dark toffee notes and tons of bourbon notes. A bit too big and boozy notes.
Ziek, zoet, zwaar. Goed spul!
Bottle [2013] @ weekly tasting shared with Joes and Dutchdrebus to celebrate the fact that the cast which has been on my left leg since March 4th (55 days ago) was removed today.. Thank god for that. I know I have a long way to go as far as full recovery goes, but I’m so happy that the cast is gone. Also, thanks to all RB friends who have wished me well during this period. It was and still is really really appreciated. -- [Rating] Nice deep dark red-brown color, small off-white head. Aroma is malts, nice bourbon. Taste malts, again firm bourbon, sweet, dark fruits, raisins, some alcohol, caramel and brown candy sugar. Full body, slow drinker, average to moderate carbonation. Heavy, full and a very very nice beer. Lovely.
Bottle @ benzai. Dark brown colour with no head. Smells sweet, cloyingly sweet, plums, malts, alcohol. Tastes appelstroop, sweet, toffee.. Amazingly deep. Kinda hits ypu like a hammer though. Feel like I need a nap after every two sips. Full body, soft carbo. --- Beer merged from original tick of Barrel-Aged Wee Heavy - Scotch Ale - Bourbon Barrel on 03 Nov 2023 at 02:10
75 cl bottle (from an IP trade with richiesd) @ home, shared with caesar, borresteijn & MarcodL. Pours a deep brown color. Off white head, short retention. Aroma’s: full on bourbon, sweet, vanilla, caramel, really nice. Flavor is sweet, a bit boozy, hints of marzipan. Fairly strong alcohol feel and rather full bodied. Long finish. Wonderful, much nicer than the base beer.
