A collaboration between Bret & Eric Kuhnhenn and Erik Harms of Dragonmead, this beer truly defies categorization. This beer is not for the hopheads - this is an intense malt-bomb. Heathen starts off similar to a traditional German Doppelbock, then goes to 11... 12.5 actually. Rich malt notes persist with flavors and aromas reminiscent of candied fruits, Christmastime spices, and a touch of smokiness. Very little bitterness throughout with flavors that persist long after the swallow. If Doppelbock was known as "liquid bread," this Triple Bock is more like "Liquid Sandwich."

Bottle. Pours a dark amber with small off white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is wood, vanilla, booze. Thin mouth, vanilla, candy sugar, caramel, boozy finish, very good.

330 ml bottle, v2012, thanks to Nightfall. Dark brown color with red notes and small beige head that disappears. Aroma is malty, light roasted, very fruity, dark dried fruits, light chocolate, some caramel, wood. Sweet and light bitter taste like aroma which gets light alcoholic when the beer gets warmer. Medium oily body with flat carbonation.

Rötlichbraunes Bier mit geringer Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr süß malzig, überreife Früchte, alkoholisch, holzig, genauso ist auch der Geschmack.

Sample at CBC 2014. Poured a crystal clear dark amber with a big frothy light tan head. The aroma is sweet treacle toffee. The flavour is medium to light sweet with a rich sweet resin hop alcohol bitter palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

0.355l bottle from Cask Pub & Kitchen, London. This is a deep dark brown one with a little bit of red in it, and it has a near non-existing thin sidesticking off-white head. On the aroma I get a nice sweetness with some smoke, ham, thin licorice and some dark fruits. It actually smells quite nice. It has a average+ carbonation level with those small prickling bubbles wrapped in a oily to sticky, full-bodied mouthfeel. It tastes of chocolate, light smoke, dark malts, booze, earth and traces of iron. A bit sweet and sticky perhaps, but the alcohol cuts through and gives it a kinda bitterness I guess. Biting and almost stingy earthy finish with traces of licorice in the aftertaste. This is my first ever beer from the legendary Kuhnhenn brewery, and I'm looking forward to my next already. 09.11.2012
