Tap at Mikk. Tokyo. Tap at Mikkeller Tokyo. Lovely looking beer. Pretty nice tasting beer too. Initial sourness, lots of fruit too, rich. Little bits of funkiness, feels like these Mikkeller sours are more interesting with darker fruits. Great blueberry fruitiness, finish after the sourness fades has some yoghurt and cheesiness. It's pretty great. --- Beer merged from original tick of (collab with) Three Floyds Blå Spøgelse Blueberry Bluebic on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:05 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 9 | Flavor - 10 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 8. Backlog
Strong blueberry sour, a collab of Mikkeller and Three Floyds and in that sense loosely connected to their shared Warpigs project in Denmark; 75 cl bottle with crown cap, from Gedeelde Vreugde. Thick, cobweb-lacing, very moussy, 'dirty' pale lilac coloured head, quite stable; dark and deep, lightly hazy deep purplish burgundy robe with bright ruby tinge. Aroma of a very expressive but also very genuine amount of dried blueberries and blueberry crumble, forest fruit yoghurt, bread crust, roses, plum juice, lemon, blue grapes, bitterish eggplant peel, sesame seed, moist white pepper, dusty old kitchen herbs. Tart, utterly fruity onset, filled to the brim with blueberry juice, dried blueberries and blueberry jam, sweetish core with softly sour berry-, plum- and grape-like tart edge, lambrusco-like carbonation; maintains its initial berry juiciness all the way through over a bready, crumble-ish malt base. Lactic sourness helps to dry the palate but everything remains perfectly drinkable and never descends into unpleasant vinegariness; berry seed, woody and peel tannins aid a late, earthy but outspoken hop bitterness in providing a bittering note in all this vinous tartness and fruity juiciness. No idea if it is the influence from Three Floyds, I was expecting something much closer to Mikkeller's own fruited Spontan series, but this clearly transcends that; this is a very classy, complex, luxurious and intelligent sour ale, of a kind I could enjoy every day without ever getting bored. International class for sure - and worth its price tag if you're into fruit sours.
Bottle sampled at Den Haag bottle share at Brody’s. Slight hazy purple with small pink head. Funk, blueberries, light yoghurt, herbal, old wood, dry leaves, soft cherries, dusty grains. Just medium sour, medium bitter and light sweet. Medium bodied.
