The name "Devil’s Heart of Gold" comes from what they call the "Devil’s Cut". When a bourbon ages in a barrel, a portion of the bourbon evaporates - this is called the "Angel’s share". Another portion of the bourbon gets absorbed into the new oak barrel - this is called the "Devil’s cut". Therefore, the Heart of Gold beer aging in the barrel starts to absorb back some of the Devil’s Cut and hence the name "Devil’s Heart of Gold".

Bottle from trade with Kevin, thanks a lot! Pours dark golden with brief head. Loads of caramel, vanilla, kick of boozy whiskey. A bit of barrel hotness. Molasses, lightly fruity. Great sipper!

Barleywine aged on Knob Creek bourbon barrels, by Perennial. At Bumb3r. Yellowish beige, loose, bubbly head, misty dark bronze robe with burgundy hue. Luscious, perfumey bouquet of hazelnut oil, madera, brandy, cocoa powder, caramel sauce, fried apple, honey. Sweet onset, candied fig with a sourish edge, softish carb, smooth and vinous mouthfeel, caramelly malt body with a lovely 'hazelnuttiness' to it, leading to a long, boozy, bittersweet finish, with lingering cocoa, honey and black pepper aspects all drenched in an explicitly bourbon-like alcohol effect whilst being dried by soft woody tannins. Bit too explicitly bourbon-flavoured for me, but other than that a top notch barleywine for sure, one I'd love to revisit in a larger sample.

Bottle at Bumba. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, caramel and smooth wheat. Flavor of thick bourbon vanilla, cherry, raisin, wheat, oak, caramel and a rich long finish. Amazing, one of the best.

Bottle thanks to Brandon. Pours a dark brown with small beige head. The aroma is dark fruit, caramel, wood, candy sugar. Medium body, caramel, candy sugar, vanilla, bourbon, nice sweetness, very good.
