Bottle. Amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is toffee, some plum, figs, mild citrus with some alcohol and very sweet maltiness. Flavour is sweet malts, some honeyish syrupy tones with mild alcohol, some vanilla and mild wooden tones too.
Bottle from 2019 , kept seemingly endlessly , anticipating for 'the right moment' , which turned out to be a random night after work, in need of a good beer. Expectations are high for this one (maple! vanilla! BW! HOTD! ) yet ratings seem to be much lower than expected. Hope i'll be able to have a different opinion.
Pours unclear, amberbrowned blonde. Small white head with medium to medium low stability. Scent is very intense, dried fruit, but to a gasoline-like background. Gasoline might sound very strange , and it doesn't smell like gasoline at all, yet the intensity, the burn-in-the-nose , is what makes me think of gasoline. Typical HOTD maltyness and yeast, almost got a herbal touch to it. Wouldn't be able to guess maple nor vanilla from this one, but the HOTD and BW part are clearly present. Taste is fairly full and sweet, but nowhere near pastry level. Alcohol a bit too high, and too clinical, providing an almost plastic-y note ( though , again, not actually plastic, as this seems very natural, and it's just rough and robust) . Vanilla still far away, a touch of maple can be traced though. Dried fruits, where the gasoline / Plasticy thing goes hand in hand - as negative as it sounds, it's not bad at all. Surprisingly high carbo for a HOTD beer, medium to even medium high in general. Medium thick body, which is lower than expected for a BW. Sure as hell this is a sipper, due to the intensity and complexity. Woody aspect rises the more you sip. This is very different than expected, but it makes a lot more sence for HOTD, compared to my expectations. As this is my second last bottle of HOTD (whom now stopped production) I can happily say i'll remember them for amazing beer, as this is truly something unique, that works, and was worth seeking out and paying a premium for. Kuddo's, and much respect for quiting on a high, rather than selling out, Alan !

All flavours as promised. Sweet, thick and supple barleywine, with a ton of Omnipollo added. Rich, sweet maple. Soft, smooth vanilla. Bit of bourbon. Amazingly rich, sweet and desserty, but also still very beery. Best of both collaborators.
