Weizen - Weizenbock Series Out of Production

An ultra-experimental mish mash of styles. This is an oak aged Imperial Weizenbock.

A big, bold mouthfeel backed by some powerful banana and classic weizen notes, balanced by an ecclectic yet bizarrely balanced variety of hops from America (Simcoe) the Czech (Saaz) and the UK (Brambling Cross).

The beer is at 10.2% ABV and has been aged on toasted French oak chips. As close to bannoffie pie as a beer can taste. Seriously.

This beer was the brainchild of our German Lead Brewer Franz.

Bottle. Dark amber color. Malty caramelly soft spicy nutty aroma. Very sweet, nutty flavor with caramel, hints of cognac and dried fruit. Milk chocolate. Hardly any carbon. Alcohol totally hidden. Hardly recognizable as a weizenbock, but well done.

Bottle [from trade with Scopey I think, thanks Paul!] @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus, Joes and Judyvv. Red-brown color, quickly disappearing off-white head. Smell and taste malts, sweet, sweetish alcohol, some dark sugar, lightly bitter in the finish. Not bad, but it’s not my style.

Reddish cognac colour, beer full of mini-UFO’s; small yellowish cream head, fast receding. Spicy, woody, fusely aroma’s. Fortified wine; sweet, caramel to toffee. Bitterish, with sweet-cakey background. Ripe banana, toffee, but with sweetness held in check; fusels. Something mineral, nearly salty too. Feels well-carbonated, very slick to oily; well-bodied, bit burning MF; alcoholheat. Little Weizen, IMO, rather a Barley Wine (or Wheat Wine, if you prefer) - whatever: good.

Huge caramel, toffee and booze. Some good bock notes but slightly too much crystal. Not oxidised. Pretty clean.

I hate these plastic corks... Pours very unclear amberbrown. Small like foam. Smell is rich, fruity, sweet, toffee, very intense! Taste is sweet, rich fruityness. Some alcohol warmth, yet its very well hidden. Has many aspects of a Barleywine! Some wood, some spice side to it as well. Very interesting taste, with a lot going on of which I am not even capable of beginning to describe. Low carbo, but not too low ( unlike many other AB beers ) Very nice mouthfeel ( bit sticky ) . All and all , a very good beer ! Unlike my expectations ( i was afraid this was going to be ’not my thing’ given the style ) I am totally in love with this one. Great beer ! , dangerously drinkable. It even reminds me of mikkeller’s beer for the kulminator... Which is miles appart stylewise ( and even ABV wise ) but still, it has similar tasteaspects.
