Got in a trade with GreenBayBA. 12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours crystal clear nearly opaque dark brown color with a 2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted oats, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of molasses, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, char, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, cocoa nibs, light-moderate earthy hops, and light fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted oats, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of molasses, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, char, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, floral, grassy, peppery hop; and roast/char bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted oats, dark/brown bread, smoke, char, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, cocoa nibs, light-moderate earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; with a great hop/roast bitter/sweet balance, and no acrid/astringent flavors after finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and fairly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 6.3%. Overall this is a delicious oatmeal stout. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, cocoa nibs, light-moderate earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/drying finish. Nicely rich malt complexity, balancing earthy hops, and restrained yeast character. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.
Bottle. Coffee, chocolate, peaty oat aroma. Black brown with a large tan head, moderate lacing. Coffee, chocolate, ash, and roasty bitter flavor. Medium body, light carbonation. Nice.
Tap at Columbus Bar. Mocha malt aroma. Dark brown color with small head. Sweet chocolate, coffee malt and lightly bitter herbal hops. Nice - hops pretty forward.
Bottle. Black body with mahogany highlights. Small, tan head, mostly diminishing. Aroma of roasted malts, cocoa powder and coffee. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet, moderately bitter and lightly to moderately acidic. Medium body, watery texture turning slick in the finish, lively carbonation. Taste dominated by bitter roast, coffee with hints of sweet chocolate, molasses and caramel. Pleasant lactic tanginess in the finish. The beer doesn’t go overboard in any direction, the oats, the roast, the sweetness or the chocolate. Nice.
