14 March 2020. Pre-Lockdown (in hindsight) Tasting with Anke & Pieter. Pours hazy black with a slowly thinning, foamy, tan head. Aroma of cappuccino, chocolate praliné, dried fig, tobacco, toasty, whisky. Taste has sweet chocolate, mocha & cream, bitter coffee roast with a (sourish) undertone of dried fruits, clear black olive umami note as well. Dry, toasty, herbal hoppy finish, notes of tobacco, mocha & warming whisky alcohol. Medium to full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Good Stout for sure, but lacks a strong 'milk' aspect and really full body too.

Can with ogivlado, at Valhalla. Dry dark maltiness in the aroma, with a solid blast of alcohol. Nice caramel-coffee notes in the taste, but the body is just too lean and dry, letting alcohol have a bigger presence than I like in general, too rough. Not ET's greatest beer.

Smells of sharp barley and some chocolate, has great black body and medium beige foam. Flavour is dep dry chocolate and barley. Dry finish. A very nice stout, well articulated.

A fairly bitter and very proper milk stout. Dark, bitter chocolate, hint of lactose, some roast, decent body. If the gimmick is showing that you don't taste aged malts, they succeeded. Tasty beer, just nothing different about it.

Can 473ml (Beergium)
Opaque colour, medium-sized beige head and lace. Toasted, a bit chocolaty and slightly milky aroma. Medium to full-bodied. Robust stout - roasted, coffee and chocolate bitterness in the flavour. Not as sweet as milk stout could be - which is nice. Ok strong stout.

16 ounce can into snifter; batch #001, no can dating, but was just released. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, brown sugar, toffee, molasses, roasted nuts, smoke, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of vanilla, cream, licorice, raisin, fig, date, cherry, charcoal, ash, herbal, wood, grass, pepper, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of black/roast/bready malts, lactose, and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, brown sugar, toffee, molasses, roasted nuts, smoke, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of vanilla, cream, licorice, raisin, fig, date, cherry, charcoal, ash, herbal, wood, grass, pepper, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate pine, herbal, woody, grassy, roast, charcoal, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, brown sugar, toffee, molasses, roasted nuts, smoke, toasted biscuit, dark/brown bread/crust, vanilla, cream, licorice, dark fruit, charcoal, ash, herbal, wood, grass, pepper, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of black/roast/bready malts, lactose, and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with an awesome hop/char bitter/sweet balance; and no cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and fairly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 9%. Overall this is a fantastic imperial milk stout. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of black/roast/bready malts, lactose, and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink with the modestly bitter/charred/drying finish. Awesomely rich English malt complexity, balancing earthy hops, and restrained English yeast fruitiness. Light residual sweetness with lingering hop/char bitter dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example. Tastes exactly like a hybrid of English style Dry/Milk stouts for an imperial version.
