District 16 is named for an area in Vienna, a city that pioneered lager brewing. Our copper-hued interpretation of the historic Vienna Lager style is a complex, smooth, and balanced beer, showcasing the best of the Old World and the New. Using Munich, Vienna, and Pilsner malts along with a blend of classic American and German Noble hops, District 16 features a refined malt backbone and a subtle hop flavor leading to a crisp and delicate finish.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy deep copper color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of caramel, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, light roast, herbal, floral, light pepper, and toast/yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of dark/bready malt and moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, light roast, herbal, floral, light pepper, and toast/yeast earthiness. Light earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, light chocolate, herbal, floral, light pepper, and toast/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and balance of dark/bready malts and moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with a minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Vienna lager! All around good balance and robustness of dark/bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
