Tap @ Morshuis Albergen. Pale blonde. Soft lemony wheaty aroma and flavor. Thinnish, slightly perfumed. Coreander. Decent.

Bottle at 't Anker. Pale yellow color. Full sized white head. Aroma and flavor are wheat, nicely blossomy, light coriander and light banana-ish yeasty notes. Nice. Must admit: I was very thirsty after a long walk. 8-4-8-4-14.

The new witbier in this series, which is named after the old nickname of the inhabitants of the respectable town of Mechelen. Bottle from Fontana, Sint-Niklaas. Thick and frothy, egg-white, tightly 'paper' lacing, very stable, creamy head over a misty ochre-tinged straw blonde beer. Aroma is very classically witbier, with a delicate fragrance on top: soapy coriander seed, white bread, ripe pear, lemongrass, pineapple, lots of vivid lemon peel, green kiwi, gooseberries somewhere, cucumber, lavender, agave, meringue, lime rind, bath foam, plaster, banana-flavoured bubblegum, freshly cut green apples (acetaldehyde?), minerals. Crisp, fruity onset, quite vivid with notes of raw pineapple, green Granny Smith apples, banana and yellow plum, sweet with a souring edge to it accentuated by rather sharp carbonation - yet fit for this style. Supple, fluffy cerealness ensues, white bread, some soapiness but not too much, resulting in a relatively delicate, kiwi-, lime- and pineapple-like finish drenched in the old soapy coriander seed, sourish and in this case very refreshing; a deep, subtle grassy hop note is there, but does not interfere with this beer's natural crispness and mild soapiness. Ends juicy, crisp, fresh and elegantly spicy, sweetish but delicately so, with quite clear coriander soapiness but not overdone at all; the young citrus peel fraîcheur prevails, it seems, but it is elegantly tempered by a very late, yet adequate touch of earthy hop bitterishness. A tad too lemonade-like for me personally, but other than that, a really fine, delicate, well-made wit, conveying the elegance and fragility this particular beer style needs. A kind of refinement of the old Hoegaarden standard, rather than another epigone of it - so in all, even if witbier is far from my preferred style, better than expected and very refreshing indeed.

Thanks to Kraddel / Beerlover_Ben. Draft glass. Hazy golden wheat, creamy white. Smell is sugar, soap, sweet white bread, bubble-gum wit. Taste is sweet sugar, candy, sweet wheat, banana, bubble-gum soap. Sugar, banana, wheat, sweet. Like a thicker Hoegaarden of sorts, very sweet bubble-gum wheat but a pleasant enough one.

9 July 2017. 6/3/5/2/10=2,6. From tap at Waterhuis aan de Bierkant. Pours cloudy yellow with a small, frothy, white head that leaves lacing. Some barley in the smell. The aroma contains wheat, citrus, yeast, spices and barley. It tastes medium spicy bitter and very light sour with a wheaty finish. Light body, watery texture, fizzy carbonation. Okay.
30 January 2018. Rerate, from the bottle. Hazy yellow with a collapsing, frothy, white head. Fresh aroma of grass, hay, wheat, citrus, spices & herbs, apple and bitter hops. It tastes light fruity sour and light to medium spicy bitter, some light citric sourness in the background; ending dry, hoppy and spicy. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Better than I remembered, so a few points more.

2/IX/17 - on tap @ Kantien (Gent) - BB: n/a (2017-1464)

Very cloudy blond to almost orange beer, creamy white head, very stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: definitely some wheat noticeable, citrus, bit grassy, fruity, banana, some tropical fruit, coriander notes. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty sourish start, fruity notes, a nice acidity, pretty bitter, wheat is present, quite some banana, bit spicy. Aftertaste: nice bitterness, dry, spicy, coriander touch but not overly done, lots of banana, nothing sweet though. I like this one!

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ van Rooij, Culemborg. Hazy light yellow with a white head. Wheat aroma, coriander and some citrus. Very typical Belgian witbier and as such quite unremarkable.
