Hazy brown colour with lasting head. Aroma and flavour have some caramel malts and resinous hop. Background flavour of rosemary. A bit thin.

Good dense, cream-coloured head over cold-hazed chestnut beer. Pine, horsechestnut, earthy, shrubs, caramel, toffee. Chocolate, caramel, again pine (suggestion?, resin. This last bequeathes a bit of wryness. Wry, but not really dry, as there is plenty of restsugars. Well- bodied, even slick, pap A Christmas IPA. Not a bad idea, and even less bad as a beer. 7/4/7/4/14

33cl bottle, thanks Tderoeck for picking it up. BB 01/2019.

The second Totem beer in which the brewer has incorporated - that is what he told me at least - 2/3 of his Christmas tree of last year; this seemingly weird idea has already proven to work well the first time, when Christmas tree needles were used in an IPA, so I am confident that now, under the new Viking theme they use for their beers, this will be no different. From a steini bottle shared by Goedele at Kantien in Ghent. Very dense, thick, creamy, eggshell-white, thickly lacing head, deep mahogany-tinged hazy copper robe - apparently Totem opted for a 'red IPA' concept of sorts this time, as their first Christmas tree IPA was a blonde one. Aroma of wet toast, grapefruit peel, spruce resin indeed, onion jam, toasted almonds, chestnuts, bitter raw cinnamon, tangerine, bitterroot, pink peppercorns, toasted bell peppers. Fruity onset, hinting at pear, unripe banana and orange peel, rounded and sweetish but subduedly so, medium carbonated; nutty and lightly toasty bittersweetish malt core, bit resinous and soapy with a sweeter caramelly edge to it. Ends in a rooty, dandelion- and wormwood-like hop bitterness though still remaining relatively softish and embellished by retronasal pine aromas. Lovely, tasty and another excellent and original Totem beer for sure, with malt sweetishness elegantly balancing the hop bitterness and the spruce effect adding an extra touch to it.

Pours unclear amber, small white head; Smell is mild pine, some tree aspects for sure. Taste is sharp, bit bitter, tad sweet, aromatic, pine and pinetree, very well blended in with what seems to be a great basebeer. love this year's version more than last year's.

330 ml. bottle @ Beerlovers Bar. I absolutely adored Ek Chuah so excited about this one. Dark amber, reddish tanned creamy head. Nose is perfume, sweet, pine, caramel big time with pine that is sweet, caramel malt. Taste is sweet caramel, low earthly, very perfume heavy, caramel, goop, yeast strangely reminds me of Ratatoskr New Evergem IPA, herbal, big bread profile, pleasant low boozy sweetness,… Body is caramel, malt, bitter bread. The Christmas tree is more perfume here than with Ek Chuah, more malt, caramel,… Nice but I adored Ek Chuah so much more but this is more logical, more accessible so I get why things were tuned down. I tried some of this on draft @ Brugs Bier Festival 2017 the day after trying the bottled version. Way better, tastier caramel profile with lingering pine coming through clearer in the back. 4/5 combined rating for both samples.

04/02/2018 - small glass shared by tderoeck, 77ships & rubin77 @BAB, Bruges. Hazy amber, medium head. Nose is malts, lots of fruit, bit caramel. Taste is malts, fruits, bitter touch, caramel, even warming a bit. As a Christmas IPA should taste for me.
