Pours unclear blonde, scent is full, mild funk, melon. Taste is full, intense on the fruits. Very melon like. High acidity, sharp, lactic (mostly) . Nice enough.

The first true melon lambic, part of the third experimental fruit lambic series by Tilquin and made with Charentais, a variety of cantaloupe melons. Finely moussy, open, snow white, shred-lacing head on a hazy apricot blonde beer with pale orange glow. Aroma of indeed green melon or even unripe watermelon, fresh cucumber including cucumber peel, barnyard, light horseblanket already, grass silage, haystack, green apple and – in warming up – a combination of sweet flowers, pear and something vaguely bubblegummy, all connected to the Charentais without a doubt. Crisp, fruity onset, green plum, gooseberry, sour apple and lemon aspects as expected but with the melon piercing through, again in a ‘green’ way more reminiscent of freshly cut cucumber or unripe watermelon than ripe sweet cantaloupe; soft fizz, dry bread-crusty backbone under ongoing lactic tartness and fruity esteriness while the ‘cucumber’ effect recedes, making room for a bittering ‘old’ and earthy hop touch and drying woody tannins, ending sour and dry, but not without a whiff of sweet melon subtly appearing retronasally. As with the other new fruit lambics in this series (apart perhaps from the clementine version), the fruit itself is a bit restrained and subtly applied, but that makes them all the more interesting, each in their own distinct way. I cannot predict which ones will be selected to eventually make it onto the market in ‘full’ bottled and refermented version, but I do hope that at least the clementine and this melon version will be among them!

Draft @ Tilquin 10ième Anniversaire - 2ième wknd.

8/V/21 - on tap @ Tilquin brewery (Rebecq), BB: n/a (2021-365) Thanks to Alengrin for sharing the beers!

Cloudy orange beer, small aery irregular white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: pretty darn fruity, funky, lots of melon, sharp brett character, dry impression, bit yeasty, some vanilla notes, sweet impression, lovely! MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: lovely, wow, lots and lots of watermelon, ripe to overripe melons. Aftertaste: fruity, good acidity, lemony, bitter, quite some tannins, juicy, dry and bitter finish, watermelon.
