05/11/2017 @home - 33cl bottle from a trade with tderoeck. Dark brown to black with a small tanned dissipating head. Nose is soft roast, coffee, some berries, caramel, milk chocolate. Taste is creamy dark malts, soft coffee, chocolate, caramel, smooth. Seems the most human Totem beer to me until now.

Bottle from De Hopduvel. Dark brown, black colour, almost no head. Nose of coffee, plums, red fruit, sweet malts. Taste is sweet with sourish touch, lots of coffee, some fruitiness. Soft carbonation. Weird beer.

Thank you! 330 ml. bottle split by two. Murky brown with little in the way of head. Coffee is there but almost big vegetable, murky chocolate milk sludge, malty syrup. Taste is sweet sugary low bark chocolate milk, coffee is there but almost bit vegetable, some coffee with milk but you don’t really get the roasted coffee which I was expecting. Body is sweet murky chocolate milk. Okay but not as huge as I was expecting nothing bad but I expect more from Totem honestly.

Commissioned coffee stout by Totem, my first one in their recently renewed style, tasted at Kantien in Ghent. Medium thick, moussy, creamy, yellowish off-white, stable head, very dark but translucent brownish bronze robe with wine red glow, lightly hazy. Aroma of caramel sauce, dried plum, elderberry juice, coffee powder, fried black olives, treacle, pear syrup, sugared tea, ruby port, bourbon. Sweet onset, raisins and dates, but with a blackberry juice-like sourishness balancing it; soft and smooth mouthfeel, creamy thanks to the lactose, which I also hold responsible for the persisting sugary sweetness throughout the whole beer (yet without anything annoyingly sticky). Smooth caramelly malt body, mild toasty touch in the finish embellished by retronasal espresso-like coffee - but no roasted bitterness. Herbal, tea-ish hoppiness provides gentle end bitterishness, followed by very port-like, clearly heating yet still not wry alcohol; the lactose sweetness lingers. Not so much an imperial stout as an extra strong sweet stout - generally coming across as an elaboration on the (very) old-fashioned, if not near-extinct, Flemish sweet 'table' stout style from half a century ago, but at a much higher alcohol strength and with coffee added - the latter lending it an almost coffee-with-milk-and-sugar-like guise. Interesting.

Thnx to 90 ! Pours very dark brown. Small white head. Smell is coffee indeed. Roasty, intense, bit herbal. Mild grassy bitterness. Taste is bit acidic by the coffee. Intense coffee, roasty.

Bottle won at Ghent Beer Festival 2017. Pours hazy dark brown with a quickly disappearing, tan head. The aroma contains coffee (powder), mocha, soy sauce, roasted malt, balsamico, vinegar, figs and berries. It tastes light sour, light sweet and medium roasted bitter with a short, sweetish finish. Medium body, oily texture, soft to flat carbonation. Liquid coffee indeed, but with surprising sour hints!

23/VI/17 - 33cl bottle @ my 10K brewing day (Bryggja brewery, Moerkerke) - BB: V/2019 (2017-941) Thanks to Klaas for sharing the bottle!

Clear dark brown to black beer, small creamy beige head, dissipates quickly, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of coffee, sweet, malty, pretty roasted, dark chocolate, cocoa powder. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sweet start, lots of coffee, dark chocolate, mocha, caramel, lactose, sweet. Aftertaste: slightly sourish, lots of chocolate, lactose, caramel, sugary, soft bitterness, mocha flavoured ice cream. Nice, even if I don't like coffee. I guess if you like coffee, you'd really dig this!
