12/2017 @home - 33cl bottle from a trade with tderoeck. Hazy straw colour with nice white head. Nose has lots of exotic fruits, spicy yeast. Taste is lots of fruits, bit dry, hint of vanilla which gave it a somewhat floral character, bit bitterness

Bouteille 33cl, BB 03/2018.

330 ml. bottle @ Gollem. Made with LACTOSE 200MESH PHARM which is of non-animal origin. Nice. The industry could market its existence but let us not start there. BBF March/2018. Bottles are apparently quite different in taste than the draft version. Golden, huge uneven head, hazy once you pour in the sediment, clear otherwise. Nose is vanilla, spices, coriander (?), low grain, soapy, low sweet, weird not what expected. Taste is doughy yeast, vanilla, sugar, low sweet, weird grain, spices, candy, dough, sweet, vanilla, low soap,… Body is grainy, milky, vanilla. Weird more sweetish vanilla grainy drink. Interesting, not very NEIPA but also 4 – 5 months old or so at this point.

Sampled @ RBBSG 2017. Clear golden color, medium sized white to off-white head. Smell and taste lightly malts, hops, quite fruity. Something odd in there, but I can’t figure out what it is. Nicely bitter. Decent body and carbonation.

IPA has become a world of beer in its own right in just a couple of decades and just when I thought nothing could be added to it anymore to further expand the concept - think fruit IPAs, barrel aged IPAs, coffee IPAs and whatever - Eastern Flanders’ most inventive brewer comes up with a lactose IPA, inspired by the milk stout idea... At ZBF. Very densely creamy and stable, egg-white head over a cloudy yellow blonde beer with deeper straw tinge. Aroma of passion fruit lemonade, milk powder, blood orange, cucumber, vanilla, melon, ripe mango, pear. Lively fruity onset, tropical with hints of granadilla, guava, pineapple and mango, banana too, sourish and soapy starfruit undertone, creamy ’lactose’ body on a soft, cereally, slick malt core, a tad bready here and there, leading to a creamy and highly aromatic finish with a lot of retronasal passion fruit, mango and mandarin, delicate and fragrant, gently bittering with ongoing lactose creaminess and sweetness gliding through. Dessert IPA, so to speak, one you’ll either love or hate but in any case highly original especially in Flemish context. Kudos to Klaas once again.
