Clesr rubyish brown body and modest foam, sweet malt and mellow hops on the nose. Flavour is sweet malt and caramel, a little boozy and rough. Medium on the mouth but a bit of lingering sugar. Comes across as artificial, some elements need to be pulled back to feel more natural.
Bottle. Pours copper-ish brown with a small white head. Aromas of nuts, hay, bread, old hops, citrus. Taste is about the same, slightly bitter. Meh.
My favorite beer in the early 80's. Thin frothy head. Strong malty hoppy buttery aroma. Relatively full bodied bitter with hops, some alcohol, butter and caramel in the flavor. A good example of how taste evoluates through the years. Sorry my love, I still like you, but I have an other sweetheart brew now!
500ml bottle, unpasteurised version, from Morrisons, Darlington. The previous pasteurised version was the first beer I ever rated on ratebeer, so very interested to try this one. Pours an orange amber colour, with an off-white tan foam head leaving alittle lacing and toffee treacle marlamade aroma. Taste is malt, toffee, molasses, with orange marmalade and some earthy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft to medium carbonatiom, dry bitter finish. Nicely drinkable. Not as spicy and a slightly lower score than the pasteurised version.
