For this year’s Dark City beer we decided to team up with two breweries who represent the old and new generations of brewing, and all that is great about both.

Old Chimneys, whose Good King Henry sets the bar for British-style imperial stout across the globe, and Wander Beyond who over the last couple of years have continued to push the ABV and flavour boundaries with their decadent creations.

We tried to bring together the best of both styles, putting together a classic, complex stout grist of roast barley and pale chocolate malt, a touch of crystal, plenty of munich malt and copious oats plus plenty of additional sugars for fermentability.

After fermenting with a classic English ale yeast we introduced multiple additions of chocolate and vanilla, building up layers of velvet delight, aiming for a true taste of indulgence in a glass.

44 cl. can @ home, gift from Dennis and Patries. Black with a beige head. Massive chocolate and vanilla aroma. Sweet taste with more chocolate and vanilla. Smooth finish as well. Truly a liquid brownie. Fantastic beer

440ml can from Vinmonopolet Langnes. Dissipating, creamy tan-coloured head leaving clingy lacing on the glass. Dark brownish body. Appealing rounded roasted chocolate malty aromas. Succulent blended taste of dark bread, chocolate, and dark fruits added by a vanilla rind. Nicely roasted finish, well balanced. Fine depth. Good drinking, enjoyed for almost an hour. Another lovely sweet thing. More beery, though, but still pretty desserty. Very smooth, lots of chocolate, and nicely cake'ish. Great body for the ABV. Soft, sweet, but still some roast. Bit of vanilla.

Svart. Høyt lysebrunt kremaktig skum som daler veldig sakte. Litt lacing. Aroma av melkesjokolade. Myk munnfølelse. Smaken sjokoladekake & lakris. Kakao i ettersmaken.

23/XII/19 - 44cl can as a gift, shared @ ElManana+1’s, BB: 9/VII/20 - (2019-2191) Thanks to Thomas M. for the can!

Clear dark brown beer, small creamy beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: oh my, lovely stuff, lots and lots of caramel, vanilla, sweet, chocolate, some lactose, nice stuff happening here! MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sweet start, lots of chocolate, syrupy, caramel, some vanilla. Aftertaste: soft roast, alcohol touch, soft bitterness, vanilla, sugary finish, not bad! Maybe a little too sweet.

0.44 l can thanks to Pilot Goran who flew it all the way from Geneva and shared with Višnja 666 and myself. Dark brown to black, small lasting beige head. Aroma is oversweet cocoa, chocolate, soft spices such as cinnamon, vanilla. Soft toasty aroma, not roasty or burnt character, stout pushed back. Flavour gives out nice roasty flavours, slightly too sweet. Some alcohol. Dry, moderately lasting finish. Smooth, medium to full body. A hidden gem.

440ml can. Pours black with a big tan head. Aroma of brownies, chocolate, fudgey biscuit. Taste is sweet, milk chocolate, vanilla, fudge, toasty biscuity malts, light bitterness making it not too sweet. Medium body, smooth. Could have been a little thicker but it's fine for the abv. Yum!
