Sampled @ KBF 2016, Essen. Opaque brownish color, average sized off-white to beige head. Smell and taste malts, some herbs and spices, a bit citrussy and weird. Average body and carbonation. Meh. --- Beer aliased from original tick of Bière des Fêtes on 16 Apr 2012 at 15:26 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 4 | Flavor - 2 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 4. Original review text: 33cl bottle @ home. Clear dark amber color, small off-white to beige head that disappears quickly. Smell malts and a lot of herbs or spices. taste is even worse! Oh I so dislike this: malts + spices + herbs + spices + herbs + spices etc etc. Yuk, drainpour, hate this. Mouthfeel is actually quite ok, soft carbo, medium body. Just absolutely don’t like this at all!

Bottle shared. Very hazy with virtually no head. Aroma of massive herbs, spice, completely overwhelming everything else. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

As Saint-Monon Spéciale Fêtes. Murky amber brown colour, small frothy tan head, mostly diminishing, good lacing. Aroma malty, roasted, anise, thyme, liquorice. Taste heavy sweet and slightly bitter, malty, liquorice (also retronasal), sugary, average duration, sweet liquorice finish, herbal notes. medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation, strange brew, reminds me of a spiced-up cola, not nice.

25/04/2015 @ ZBF shared with tderoeck, 77ships, PriorL and kraddel. Hazy brown, small head. Nose is overpowered by spices, some alcohol. Taste : some dark malts, sweet caramel but again overpowere by the spices.

Presented as Saint-Monon en Fêtes at ZBF last week, but an alias of Saint-Monon Bière des Fêtes - in fact, even the brewer admitted it was the same thing (and coming to think of it, I still think this is also the same beer as Saint-Monon Bière de Noël, but I’m not sure if this name is still used nowadays). Murky, if not muddy, dark brown colour, not really appetizing especially since the pale beige, loosely structured head dissolved in instants. Very spicy aroma, overpowering ginger, coriander seed, caramel, cloves, some coffee grounds, thyme, bitter chocolate, and a big dosis of the dreaded DMS (cooked cabbage); in fact, the nose is overpowered by a ridiculous spice dosis combined with an off-flavour - not too inviting. Sweet, resinous, caramelly, some dried fruits in the mouth but again that absolutely exaggerated truckload of spices, cloves, ginger, coriander, drying the mouth and totally wrecking the balance of flavours. To say that this beer is unbalanced would be an understatement - this offering was even worse than the bottle I tasted eight-odd years ago, as far as I remember. This brewery did some good things, I’m a fan of their honey beer for example, but I cannot understand what this beer’s intention was; in terms of style, I’d probably describe it as a Scotch-inspired Belgian Christmas ale dominated by spices. I tasted this as Saint-Monon Bière des Fêtes years ago and it was already overly spiced then, so apparently they have persevered...

Tasted years ago under its original name Saint-Monon Bière Spéciale des Fêtes. Deep brown beer under a thin off-white head; aroma of estery fruitiness and caramelly malts overpowered by a strong, near medicinal, ethereal spiciness (cloves, liquorice, coriander, star aniseed) which returns in the mouth retronasally. Too spicy if you ask me, but interesting.

33 cl. bottle sampled @ Kerstbierfestival Essen 2013. Dark brown, small white head. Nose is full of sweet spices, herbal, liquorish & caramel. Taste is sweet liquorish, touch anis, herbal, sticky spices, touch kitchen spices, dried fruits, touch bread. Touch fuller body. Okay brew, not stellar. --- Beer aliased from original tick of Bière des Fêtes on 26 Apr 2015 at 06:02 - Score: Appearance - 4 | Aroma - 2 | Flavor - 2 | Texture - 4 | Overall - 2. Original review text: Sampled @ ZBF 2015. Possibly the same beer as “Saint-Monon Bière des Fêtes”? The names seem rather similar to me. Murky brown, little mocha head. Nose is sour, sour herbs, rotting, fizzy, totally off. Taste is thin, fizzy, sour, rotting, soap, nasty,… Totally off beer. (Thx! for sharing people!)
