Draft @ Zwanze 2022, Moeder Lambic Fontainas.

On tap at Moeder Fontainas (2018). Clear flat (no head) yellow pour. Barrel bouquet. Whoa, zero carbonation. Mild sourness and barnyard overshadow grain and cereal notes. Average body and mouthfeel.

0,2l from tap at Ammutson during Zwanze day 2021. Amber clear, small white head. Smells of cough Sirup, herbal, honey, Licorice, oak. Nice to very nice smell. Full body, no carbonation. Tastes Licorice, herbal, spices, grassy, nutty, walnuts, bergamot. Finishes lightly sweet and lightly sour with notes of walnuts, Licorice and some bergamot. Very nice one, not the best, but overall very interesting, I like the tea and Licorice notes

The tap version of Cantillon’s famed ‘vin jaune lambic’, lambic aged on vin jaune barrels, a kind of deliberately oxidized wine from the French Jura region; this lambic has – in various forms and under various names including the current name La Vie Est Belge – been bottled as well, with stunning results. From tap at Moeder Lambic Fontainas during Zwanze Day. Egg-white, thick and frothy, fluffy, stable head on a misty yellow-straw blonde beer. Aroma of lemon rind, sour green grapes, unripe plums, raw cucumber, stale sweat, crushed green gooseberries, very dry sherry. Crisp, fruity onset, lime juice-like acidity alongside sour grape and green apple impressions, acidic edges but not too harshly puckering, fizzy carb, slick bready malt ‘underbuilt’ made bone dry by lemony and strong lactic sourness; light hayish Brett touches in the end along with rhubarb and cucumber aspects, followed by light woody tannins and a deeply buried, late earthy hop bitter note. Nice, very crisp, ‘yellowish green’ top quality lambic, yet lacking in the immense depth, originality and maturity I experienced in bottled La Vie Est Belge last year.
