Rich, fruity, light booziness in spite of strength. Caramel, brown sugar. Touch thin maybe for flavour but makes it drinkable. Vinous. Biscuits. Sweet. Dried fruit.
Bottle. Labeled as Gulden Draak Vintage 2009. no idea wether this is than released in 2009, or 2009 and kept, later to be released as ’vintage 2009’ ???carefully poured, with yeastsediment left in the bottle. no flakes, to my surprise! Pours clear, dark ambercopper / brown. Small white head. Smell is oxidation. 100 % oxidation, but not very intense scent. Taste is oxidation, dark Sugar ( still tasting like Sugar !) and of course the familliar Portorization. not a lot of other things going on. Medium to low body, medium carbo. Nothing truly offensive here, but just an oxidized beer without too much depth or complexity to make it a great old beer.
750 ml. Bottle sampled @ O.B.E.R. Kestbierfestival 2014. (Thx!) 2009 Vintage. Reddish dark brown, tanned head on the side. Nose is warming, wood, varnish, paint, oxidation / cherry,… Taste is bitter leaves, varnish, paint, leaves, BE yeast,.. Carbonation is way too high & I am tasting paint, varnish etc. disappointing.
Dark brown with a lively tan head. Roasted aroma, tastes of alcohol and malt. Should age well.
Lighter winter version of the classic Gulden Draak since 2005, with a malty, yeasty and spicy (coriander) character, but less sweet than the regular; caramel and nutty malts, dryish taste with some candied fruits, bitterish finish. Basically a downtuned version of their regular Gulden Draak - and in that sense equally purposeless as e.g. Duvel Groen. Never understood why Van Steenberge came up with this in the first place. But not a bad Belgian ale, generally speaking.
rood/bruin/zwart van kleur met schuimige bruine kraag. aroma: zeer nadrukkelijk aanwezig; toffee, chocolade, donker fruit en bruine suiker. smaak: (bruine) kandij suiker, peper, toffee, chocolade, donker fruit, caramel moutig redelijk volle body met droge afdronk. hij laat een redelijke indruk achter, echter de gulden draak zelf is vele malen beter.
33cl bottle. Dark brown with frothy tan head good lacing and perfect lasting. Aroma is spicy dry fruits and alcoholic. Flavour is nutty brown sugar dense on palate with a long final bready buttery and moderate sweet. Carbonation is soft. Body is light. From my point of view Gulden Draak is much better than this one.
Bottle from Asahiya. Plum, cherry, alcohol, caramel nose. A bit spicy, with raisin. Reddish brown with a tall head. Chewy choco and caramel, figs and raisins, some alcohol. Like a brownie. Tasty and chewy. Light enough but full. Very nice. Â
Like the ’normal’ Gulden Draak better. Smell and taste didn’t get any better with this one. -- Quick re-rate Dec. 20th 2014. Clear dark red color, cassis, dark fruits, something weird, lightly yeasty, lightly alcohol. Decent.
/8/8/9/fl/8
