Bottle. Light cloudy chestnut, low head. Tonka and licorice nose. Medium body, sweet tonka, light coffee retronasal, toffee, sugary praline, Lebkuchen. A bit too tonka/vanilla for me.
Black with thin head. Aroma has Tonka and coconut. Texture is nicely thick and oily. The sweet elements of coconut and Tonka dominate the flavour. It's a well made beer but not to my taste.
Taster
Tonka bean and coffee stout by this prominent Estonian craft brewer collaborating with another, somewhat lesser known colleague, thanks to tderoeck for sharing the bottle. Moussy, bubbly, pale beige, quickly opening and dissipating head, pitch black robe. Aroma of indeed tonka bean, marzipan, coconut flakes, toffee, milk chocolate, dried banana, hazelnut, sirop de Liège, granola, treacle, cognac. Sweet onset, blackberry jam, fig compote, yellow raisins, softly carbonated with slick but full, oily body; thick hazelnutty, caramelly and chocolatey malt core, more tilted towards bitter 'fondant' chocolate towards the end but generally remaining sweet, with a strong but well-positioned exotic tonka effect dominating the second half, offering all these lovely desserty impressions of marzipan, coconut and hazelnut, whilst highlighted by a warming, rum-like alcohol glow. Hops remain soft, but do add a very essential, 'deep' end bitterness. Loaded with tonka, but in the best way possible: I normally find tonka-flavoured pastry stouts way over the top, but this one has retained the basic structure of a more old school imperial stout, and knows where to stop. Have an extra point for this kind of relative restraint while still being able to offer all the tonka you want - this is among the best Sori brews I had to date.
30/VII/21 - 33cl bottle, shared @ Bar Beenhouwer (Gent), BB: 26/II/23 (2021-709)
Clear dark brown beer, big creamy solid beige head, stable, little adhesive. Aroma: oh my, lots and lots of tonka, some chocolate, cinnamon, gentle roast. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: oh my, lovely stuff, all tonka, ginger bread, little sweet, gentle roast, little sweet, bitter touch. Aftertaste: lots and lots of ginger bread, bitter hops, gentle roast, lots of tonka in the finish that keeps lingering on the tongue. Nice adjunct stout, I love it!
Bottle. Black pour. Aroma of cinnamon, tonka beans, caramel, milk chocolate and licorice. Taste has lots of tonka, coconut, cinnamon, caramel, smooth mocha coffee, milk chocolate and licorice. Delicious.
Bottle at home. Opaque black color, off-white to beige to light brownish head. Aroma reminds me of malts, sweetish milk chocolate, some coffee but mostly the tonka beans dominate. Just a little bit too much if you'd ask me. Flavor is malts, tonka beans again, notes of milk chocolate, coffee, sweetish a bit but overall not bad.
Bottle at Maakun’s, thanks Kermis! Black with tan head. Sweet massive tonka. Roasted malts. Wait whut urrr I guess oh yeah some coffee. Quite sweet and soapy. Over medium body and soft carbonation. Creamy feel.
