Original English IPA with prolonged aging in white Burgundy barrels (Puligny-Montrachet), 7 vol%

La Renaissance is a revival of an old hit. In the years around 1800 the “India Pale Ale” was highly sought after in the UK. La Renaissance is made from malt and hops, which were most used in that time, and then matured for a year in wooden barrels. Through its long maturation, the beer is softer and less bitter. In addition, the beer takes tannins and flavors from the wood. Our own ‘twist’ to this story is the choice of the used barrels. We have chosen burgundy barrels of the brand, “Puligny Montrachet.’ This white Burgundy with its dry, earthy spiciness,

Bottle kindly donated Benzai, many thanks man. Hazy orange golden color with medium white head. Yeast, citrus hops, salt, fruity tartness in aroma. Fruity taste (grapes) with caramel, brett, citrus hops, resin, oak. Frutty tart finish with light citrus hoppy bitterness.I don’t care which style this beer should be, but it’s well balanced tasty beer.

Bottled from de Molen beershop, BB April 2016, large sample, served in a TeKu. Hazy golden color, medium to large frothy off-white head. Aroma of flowery hops, quite some citrus, hint of yoghurt, some biscuity malt, slight oak wood but not much. There are definitely some extra flavors around, that makes the beer quite fruity and slight funky even. Slight bitter in taste, quite some sourish note I didnt expect, bretty, bit dry. Sourness is quite lactic, but seems to have a slight acidic note, hope that doesnt evolve too much during the experiment. Finishes quite dry and almost astringent. Like the bitterness is too strong after the beer has dried out and no sugars remain to compensate. Aroma is quite promising, but flavor is unfortunately a bit off.
