Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy orange with a large frothy white head that lasts awhile leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is a sweet fruit and floral hop. Thin mouthfeel and a hoppy bite upfront with citrus and caramel and nice lingering bitter finish. Hides the alcohol well making it very easy to drink, a very good American pale ale from Boulevard.
750 ml. Hazy, amber body. Frothy, off-white head, mostly diminishing. The aroma is more hoppy than malty with notes of grapefruit, resin, citrus, toasted grain, caramel. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture and lively carbonation. The flavor is more malt-forward than expected, a bit husky and grainy resulting in a thicker mouthfeel. The hops are more subtle in the flavor than in the aroma, but there are tastes of orange, sweet grapefruit and flowers. This is a quiet APA and while unremarkable and a bit unrefined, it is easy drinking.
750mL cork and wire, out of the fridge at Royal Liquors. Poured into a tall stemmed tulip glass from Marin Brewing. Has a thick beautiful head and dark amber colored body. Had this right after the Double Wide out of the 12oz bottle and they were indeed very similar. Too much caramel sweetness (not strong, just too much for my tastes in IPAs). The fresh hops were not centric enough in conjunction with the malt presence (as I would like it to be). It was a nice mix of slightly sweet malt backbone, spicy and sweet hops, and a thicker mouthfeel. I just prefer a cleaner, thinner malt profile with a more hop-centric aspect for this type of beer. Price point is high for this beer, especially since it needs to be consumed ASAP. Good brew, a little off for my preference, and too pricey.
