Bottle @ abbey. Amber color. Confit cherry, hints of oak and vanilla in the aroma. The new oak gets stronger in the flavor. Cherry confit, vanilla and marzipan. Alcoholic, but well balanced. The oak ageing adds quite of lot of depth and complexity to this beer.
A great surprise find at Open Baladin Rome
Pours rather dark brown, clear, with a small white head. Smell is bit boozy , sharp, port. Taste is full , intense, oak, bit boozy, port, woody. Some sweetness, some oxidation in a good way. Very nice.
Smooth and fresh woody brew. Round, wood, malt. Not too sweetish or intense, the wood is round, fresh and in the background. Smooth and fresh, not too intense, nice though.
375ml.
10/11/11/11/10/11
Sampled from 0.375 l bottle. Clear, dark brownish amber with a beige head. Sweetish-malty aroma of vanilla, honey and some oak. Rather sweet, malty and slightly fruity taste of caramel, vanilla, raisins and some oak, followed by a short, slightly bitter, moderately warming finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very nice!

22/XII/15 - 37.5cl bottle from Geers, Hopduvel or the monastery shop @ Tim's Amazing La Trappe Oak Aged Series Batch 2 Through 13 Tasting - BB: n/a, blended: 5/XI/2010 (2015-1756)
Note: after hoarding the oldest of these beers for over 5 years, I decided to crack down on them, before they disintegrate.
Clear dark amber beer, small creamy beige to yellow irregular head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: sweet, bit oxidized, caramel, honey, spicy touch. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: lots of banana, sweet, very much alcohol, some vanilla. Aftertaste: sweet, caramel, more banana, bit sugary, oxidized, still banana.
0.375l corked bottle from Barley Wine. This is a light cloudy dark brown one with a small lightly lacing beige top. Really vinous and woody on the aroma. Alcohol, tons of candied sugar, sweet dried dark fruits/berries and red wine stock. Really lively and really good on the nose this! It's right below average on the carbonation and the mouthfeel is surprisingly soft oily - almost on the border of being thin. Due to the relatively high alcohol level, I feel it had deserved a bit more body. Nice barreled-flavors. It's really candy and fruit-sweet this. Sticky dates and figs with a warming alcohol rush down the throat. It's not until the end you also notice a soft slightly acidic sourness. Suits it nicely, cause this is quite a sugary sweet one. Can't wait to try the others in the series. 28.01.2013
375 ml bottle sampled @ Kulminator thx to Man-ki & Michiel // tasted along with batches # 3 & # 5 // from a tiny La Trappe tasting glass // end 2010 / early 2011 Vintage // dark ruby / red berry amber with a small lightly tanned, touch beige head // smell is quite sweet & wine gum fruity, I picked this out as being probably a blend of pure oak & porto, overall porto wine gummies, malt, oak, caramel, fruity, sweet // taste is porto sweet, bordeaux & purple wine gum, caramel, touch esters buried underneath, sweet spices, half dried fruits, touch of those small dried fruit cubes, don’t know how they are called, maybe touch sweet sherry, Belgian yeast, fresh, clean oak, small hint of hops in the back, minor alcohol // smooth, lightly syrupy, softer carb. // not the biggest fan of the Oak Aged at first but they have started growing more & more on me
