Bottle. Pours a hazy brown ruby with small off white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is cherry juice and grape skin. Slick body, marichino cherry and light tartness, held up very nice.

Sweet cherry juice aroma. Sweet, sugary, artificial cherry juice flavor. Alexander was good, but this is a load of sweet rubbish.

Pours murky coppery colour, topped with smaller and not so lasting offwhite head. Modetate vinous-vinegar nose with some sweet, syrupy cherry notes pretty in the back. Taste fruity sweet, moderately syrupy, with some very subtle sourness. Medium body. Very nice actually.

The missing link between Rodenbach Alexander from the nineties and Rodenbach Rosso which was launched recently; this version existed from 2004 to 2007. It consisted of 4/5 young Rodenbach and 1/5 sugared cherry juice and was aimed at a young audience - hence the somewhat gimmicky bottle with screw cork and the totally gimmicky, flattened glassware in which it was supposed to be served. I remember this as a darkish red brown beer with very sweet, sugary, cherry jam-like onset revealing more sourishness and woodiness (real ’Rodenbachness’, so to speak) towards the end, not unlike the long-gone Alexander; a weird tomato aroma kind of disturbed me, though. It was discontinued due to lack of success, I wish the brewery all the luck with their Rosso now, but there is no doubt this kind of compromized attempts at popularizing Rodenbach are to be looked upon as a commercial necessity to help keeping the ’real’ thing (including the Grand Cru, Vintage and other versions) alive - and for such an important beer family, I quite obviously can have nothing against that.

11/VIII/13 - 25cl bottle from Kulminator (Antwerpen) @ home - BB: XII/2007 (not sure, ink was smudged) (2013-760) Thanks to BelgBeerGeek for the trade!

Clear red brown beer, small off-white head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: honey, orange peel, port and sherry notes, earthy, bit nutty, cork / mildew, fruity notes, sour cherries, bit lemony, some vinegar. MF: soft carbon, medium to light body. Taste: very sweet start, sugary, very fruity, cherry candy, bit lemony, more sweetness. Glad to have completed my Rodenbach series now!

had one in the kulminator . they were all out but find some, this was the very very last one they had of those ’ founded bottles’ so i guess i am very lucky here ! tastes very sweet cherries, even after al the aging ( will keep good to 2006 , how old aint this than? 2004 ? ) if you search good you can still taste the rodenbach caracter, but the sweetness is overwhelming on this one. i also got some kind of ’old cany’ taste wich i dont like at all. sugars maybe? prob wasnt there fresh... but overall better than expected !

some Vintage bottle@Kulminator: deep red colour, smells like some kind of cherry cocktail mixed with some musty & sour cherries, taste is like cherry juice & cherry cocktail, some cherry candy, mixed with something you would get if you tried making a traditional kriek outside of Pajottenland (musty, rotting & sour cherries), some vinegar, overall a strange clash between two sides of this beer with the latter clearly having developed largely with aging, medium body & carbonation, slightly oily
