16oz can from Acme Fresh. Clear amber pour with a small but sturdy head. Malty aroma, toasty. tase also focuses on the malts, dry, but the hops come in late. More of a traditional DIPA.
The aromas are bananas and Vienna malt. Flavors are somewhat similar to nose, bittersweet with decent carbonation and slightly more sweet than bitter finish. Full body and good drinking but not a lot of hops.
Bottle at GABF. Pours a dark copper with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is toasted malt and dark fruit. Medium body, rye, pine, raisin, nice bitter finish, good.
Bottle from Liquor Barn. Orange amber clear full bodied beer with modest carbonation. Pine and citrus taste, long bitter finish.
Bottle. Toasty, fruity caramel malt and light herbal hops aroma. Hazy amber with a large beige head. Toasty caramel malt and strong herbal hops bitterness. Body on the lighter side of full, moderate carbonation. Not really my thing, but well made.
Old rating. Bottle from Old Town. Pours a deep brownish amber color with thin tan head. Boozy aroma with hints of raisin, prune, citrus, yeast and malts all on the nose. Starts out slightly sweet on the palate then the hop bitterness takes over throughout the finish. Nice pepper taste present as well as some spice.
Bottle. Berry, orange peel, caramel malt and light alcohol aroma. Amber with large light tan head. Lightly sweet caramel malt and moderately intense bitter grapefruit peel and mild alcohol flavor.
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 11/11/2018. Pours crystal clear ruby reddish orange color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings to the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, papaya, mango, melon, citrus peel/zest, light pepper, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, papaya, mango, melon, citrus peel/zest, light pepper, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, papaya, mango, melon, citrus peel/zest, light pepper, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and sticky/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 8%. Overall this is an awesome imperial red ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Awesome Simcoe/Cascade profile. Very juicy and fairly dank/earthy hop complexity; great malt balance, not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and impressive style example as usual.
