Balaton is our Wild Missouri Brown Ale that was fermented in and aged in local Chambourcin Barrels with Missouri microflora for over a year with Michigan Balaton Cherries. We wanted Balaton to be soft, yet complex, so it is only 5% abv with a higher level of Brett influence and more impactful oak presence to balance out the signature Side Project acidity and the tart, cinnamon notes of the cherries. . .

Bottle shared with Peter! Pours hazy dark reddish brown with a small fizzy offwhite head. Aromas of sweet cherries, malt, oak, vinegar. Taste has lots of cherry, oak, vinegar, lactic acidity, light malty, subtle funk.

0,375l bottle at home. Blend #2. redish / brown color, small off-white head. smells marzian, nutty, some cherries, bit lactic, spices. nice smell. medium body, bit pearly carbonation. tastes bit lactic, light vineger, cherries, bit glueish, spices, peppery, light candle wax, bit breadish, some marzipan, bit nutty. finishes dry and medium sour with lactic notes, some cherries and some candle wax notes. interesting balance, sour notes are more prominent upfront and get more subtle on the finish. quite good one overall.

Bottle shared at Salud by Hasheem, thank you sir! Dark brown color light tan head. Intense cherry aroma with light tannins. Taste has more tannins, softly sour cherry balanced by sweet vanilla. Delicious

Bottle courtesy of Carl. Murky fairly ugly brownish red pour with a frothy beige head. Musty fruity nose with dark bread, musty sweet cherries, plums, lemon, soil, leather, apples & hints of barnyard. tiny sweet, sour, tiny malty, fruity, doughy & tiny buttery taste. Soft, round, slightly dry & tart mouthfeel. Nice smell but taste is too young with dough & butter. Give it time if you have a bottle (wrote this ~6 months ago so would be cool to retry the beer now). --- Beer merged from original tick of Balaton on 22 Jul 2016 at 19:01 - Score: 7. Original review text: Very musty sweet cherry character with solid leathery funk. Bit buttery in the taste.

375mL capped bottle shared by Dice. Dark red color. Juice dark cherry juice aroma. Unfortunately the flavor loses all that juiciness and us replaced with sourness. Dry end. Want more juicy dark cherry.
