This Zenne y Frontera is a blend of eleven different sherry barrels - ten Oloroso barrels and one Amontillado barrel. The Oloroso bar-rels were more than fourty years old. The lambics originate from four different brews and were all a good year old when filling the sherry barrels. Accordingly, the weighted average age upon bottling was a tad more than 25 months. 100% 3 Fonteinen.

0,75l bottle at home. Bottled 24.07.2019. BB 26.10.2039. amber murky color, tiny small white head. smells nutty, curry, walnuts, wood, earthy, peppery. lovely smell. full body, pearly carbonation. tastes curry, earthy, grassy, spices, peppery, lactic sour. finishes dry and medium sour with notes of curry, grass and peppery notes. very good one, trending towards lactic sourness though, surprisingly bubbly, curry and sherry notes overlayered by the lactic sourness. lacks some funk. very good one overall.

First glass from bottle, decanted rest (takes a bit to get me to reach the very top shelf of the kitchen cabinet). Gold with a dense cream head. Aroma of lemon blossoms, almonds, whitewashed laundryroom, shrivelling sweet grapes. Medium bodied, low carbonation. Sourer than anticipated from the aroma with an insistent old lemony sharpness over layers of dried pineapple, almonds, sherry, apples, oak. There's a burst of those flavours at the start and they gradually they fade until only the sourness, some spices and wood remain. Then the second glass has much less of the sharp lemony note in the aroma and much more funk and some recognisably oxidised sherry notes. Stone fruit - apricots, yellow peaches - join the fruit. Maybe some ripe gooseberry too. The sourness is now underneath until the end. Third glass is funkier still. If 3F's approach is well-mannered depth, this one takes things a little further.

Semi-hazy golden pour with a thin off-white head. Notes of oak, leather, barnyard funk, unripe stonefruit, sherry, fruit oxidation, soft mineral funk, walnuts, vanilla. Heavy on the sherry and oak, with a bit of oxidation. Delicious stuff.

Pours unclear blonde, smell is full, mild sherry, more oak. Taste is sharp, acidic, mild acetic. Dry, mild sherry - yet recognizable. Very oaky.
