Deze editie verenigt op elegante wijze de Duitse traditie van ‘Rauchbier’ (gerookt bier) met de goed uitgebalanceerde smaken van onze Belgische biercultuur.
Tijdens het brouwproces wordt een deel van de mout vervangen door ‘peated malt’ (gerookte mout). Dit resulteert in een amberkleurig bier met een kruidige en pittige hopsmaak, aangevuld met een zachte fruitigheid en subtiel rokerige toets die nog lang blijft nazinderen.
En geen rook zonder vuur! Deze Belgische interpretatie van een gerookt bier is alvast het ‘vonkje’ dat de lont doet ontbranden richting 2021, wanneer een gerookte smaakexpressie van Gouden Carolus Single Malt whisky zal worden uitgebracht. To be continued!

From tap. Hazy amber-brown, small, tan head. Aroma of fig, smoked plum, pear, wood, rubber, vague bacon, caramel, tobacco leaves. Taste has sweet fig, red apple & plum in a brioche-like, peanutty, slightly caramelly malt body with smoky notes surrounding it. Herbal hoppy finish, smoke, earth & burnt wood lingering as well as sweet dried fruit, bitter herbs and warming liqueur alcohol. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Interesting but not stretched to its limit, still playing it safe.

Clear orange beer, small creamy yellowish head, pretty stable, non adhesive. Aroma: super peated, very smoky, whisky, very intense, more smoke. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sourish up front, sweet malty backbone, bit sugary, rather bitter, hoppy touch. Aftertaste: smoky, peated, very bitter, funky, juicy, some grapefruit notes, very hoppy, spicy, weird, very peated. Rauchbier is not made with peated malts, so I have no idea why they would claim this beer is based on the German Rauchbier tradition. Oh well…

Ruikt naar vingerverf zoals verwacht. Nieuwe schoenen. Smaakt ook zo, maar niet te sterk. En dan word ik er wel blij van. Leuk.

Clear light brown colour. An interesting and very pleasant beer. Initially there's a gentle malt sweetness but the peaty elements gradually grow and grow adding earthiness, smokiness and a little meatiness too. The body is excellent. Very full and smooth. Has elements of German Bamberg but is less 'in your face'.

A 750ml bottle kindly shared by djoeye. Big shot followed by smoke when opened. Rocky, two-finger thick white head some of it remaining over a clear amber body, crocheted lacing. Peaty nose, distant scent of fruit. The taste character follows suit with peat and smoke, some notes of fruit as well. Woody. Prolonged peaty ending. Okay, rather unvaried though. (Rating session with djoeye, Finn and lmojoh, Tromsø 27.04.2021).

Spandert av djoeye. Delt med ham, lmojoh og Rune i WCveien. Varm gylden. Kjempehøyt kremaktig skum. Daler sakte. Spotlacing. Aroma av survedbål. Smaken røkt torv. Tørr avslutning. Litt uvariert.
