Bottle from Delhaize. Hazy dark amber, small, foamy, tan head. Aroma of raisin, candied fig, ripe red apple, pear, caramel, sherry, brioche, marzipan, brandy. Taste has very sweet raisin & pear, some dried banana in a caramelly, brioche-like malt body that is also quite sugary; bit phenolic-spicy next to a nail polish effect. Herbal hoppy finish, yet covered by caramel, dried fruit, very vague woody tannins & 'sweet' vanilla, and boozy brandy-like alcohol. Medium to full body, syrupy texture, average carbonation. I expected worse but it's decent and drinkable, albeit crude and artificially marketed as a 'novelty beer'.

Small creamy rim over veiled redbrown beer with a purplish sheen. Raisins, sherry (sweet one), alcohol and some fusels, (sweet) chocolate, hazelnuts. Warming up, an aroma of cocos. Sweet, again amontillado sherry, liqueurish; fruity notes & esters. Hazelnuts return, if with a sweet, marzipan-like hint. Very slick to oily. Some alcoholthinning and -burn. Much better than expected (feared). If the ABInbev ogre let them experiment in Bugggenhout, who knows what might turn up?

T: full malty base, sherry, vinous, caramel, bit red berries, vanilla touch, woody, mellow fruity, bit warming alcohol, Nutella touch, honey, soft carbonation, too sweet and not so complex to great yet not bad at all.

Pours a clear, very dark mahonie brown. Medium sized, relatively stable, creamy, slightly tanned head. Scent is buttery oak, sherry ? Yeah perhaps, but not the way I like my sherry's. This reeks more of wet (rotten) old wood, and buttery boozyness. No refined, oxidative character I had hoped for. Taste is sharp, noticable alcohol, really simple sweetness, buttery oak, less ( even no ) 'rotten oak' character here. The sherry though... Man, I never tasted a sherry in my life I truly disliked, but if my sherry tasted like this, I would have. Oakchips ( vanilinne ) overkill as well, this isn't balanced. It's not too sweet though, they did get that right. Even a very mild, hidden bitter touch. Dark fruits, earth and leaves, all the typical Belgian Dark Strong Ale characteristics. It must have been an OK, perhaps bit generic, basebeer, but things went south by an overkill of woodchips, and what seems like chemically enhanced vanillinne. The Sherry is lost to me, but perhaps there truly is a great amount of sherry in here, that's just not recognized because of it's low quality...

I never have any expectations from an Inbev beer, but seeing this has received raves on social media, ánd it was with sherry, I must admit even I became curious... But even I had hoped for more here.

Smaak komt bekend voor, whiskeyachtig, toch zacht van smaak, (caramel)zoet maar ook kruidig. Niet bitter en zeer lichtjes zuur.
