Bottled. Black colour with a small beigeish brown head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malts, some liquorice, coconut, mild vanilla, almost some tonka bean like elements with a bit wooden tones too. Flavour is liquorice, some alcohol, coconut, chocolate, more alcohol and liquorice to it.
18/6/22: BD 15062020. Brownish black, fine brown foam, bit gluggy. Smell is sweet, lotsa chocolate and sweet coconut, subtle barrel. Thick and creamy body, bit boozy end. Taste is not just sweet, some good roast at first, then alcoholic barrel, ending on Bounty.
25/1/23: BD 15062020. Very dark brownish black, looks pretty thick. Smells roasty, sweet, milky chocolate, coconut lessened. Nicely thick body, bit of sharp carbonation, quite boozy. Taste is a bit more bitter than I recall, lots of barrel. Lost some softness.
Flink zoet, roosterig, koffie en chocolade. Daar bovenop nog een laagje kokos. Vrij boozy maar hij kan het hebben.
330ml bottle from the Farmers Bar, Puchong, Malaysia. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a short-lived frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, coffee, light boozy alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet, light liqourice bitter, with a rich, oily, roasty, dry coffee, dark chocolate, light vanilla lactose, warm alcohol bitter palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation.
A fitting beer to raise a glass to the remarkable life of HRH Prince Phillip on the day of his funeral. May he rest in peace.
Black with greyish ring. Massive sweet deep roasted chocolate malts. Coconut shells, coffee, rye, deep barrel. Full body, soft carb. Very nice!! It’s boozy but the beer can handle it.
Bottle shared huge thanks to sjogro. Black with small tan head. Thick roasted malts, soft coconut, rye whisky, brandy, vanilla, raisins, lots of boozy notes, fudge. Quite sweet and boozy bitter. Almost full bodied, quite boozy finish. Nice but quite alcoholic.
Delt med Rune på Nerstranda. Feiring av hans Brewver-rating 20000! Svart. Lavt mokkafarget skum som seiler inn i skumring. Aroma av dadler, lakris & sjokolade. Silkemyk munnfølelse. Smaken balansert. Kokos som bakgrunn. Lakris, sjokolade & lær i forgrunnen. Lett tørr avslutning.
330ml bottle kindly shared by Finn. Tan-coloured head over a jet black body, clingy lacing. Inviting aromas of black chocolate and dark bread, well roasted. Rich taste of black chocolate malts, oak vanilla and moderate hints of coconuts, Coffee hints towards a long-lived and warming finish. Full bodied. Lovey slow sipper. (Nerstranda, Tromsø 18.03.2021).
BD 15/06/2020, BB 15/06/2023, Batch 165, 330ml bottle;
APPEARANCE: deep dark brown to black color with some ruby hues at the bottom of the glass; very quickly dissipating coffee brown like head into a few lonely islands
AROMA: mild amount of coconut at the opening but fades rather quickly in the glass, medium sweetness of toasted sugars, dark caramel, dried dark fruits like dates, figs & prunes, toasted bread crust and hints of sweet oatmeal cookie, melting chocolate, hints of caramelized onions, vanilla, subtle beef stock, soft spicy rye whiskey & wood, no sign of coffee on the nose, gentle spicy alcohol but otherwise remarkably well hidden for 13%
TASTE: very low carbonation, medium body to medium plus, quite thin mouthfeel even for BA treatment, moderate silky and oily texture, alcohol is nicely hidden (no heat); first of all, where is the coconut? Just very subtle echo at the exhale; medium sweet onset mainly from toasted sugars, brown and caramel candy, a touch of butterscotch, bread crust, sweet chocolate, mellow spicy rye whiskey, faint smoke, minerals, savory note, hints of stewed mushrooms, very subtle iron, dried dark fruits & red fruits candy, lack of coffee - just retronasal presence, mild tartness, surprisingly easy drinkable for abv, no detection of roasted malts and bitterness
OVERALL: I’m not impressed with the outcome; feels more like a Baltic (Imperial) Porter than IS with adjuncts; coconut and coffee are very restrained and subtle, barrel character is present but that's all; bottle and draft versions of regular Cocobänger (before they increase production in a new brewery) are much more better than this BA version;
