A 2018 Kriek with fall raspberry and rhubarb.

Our first barrel aged kriek (2018) is blended with a kriek from 2019 that has been a year on barrel. This cherry lambic blend has subsequently been macerated with autumn raspberries. Here we have added a third type of acid (Oxalic acid) this comes from the rhubarb. Oxalic acid is present in large quantities in the leaves which we do not use, the rhubarb stem contains only a low dose of this acid. By combining 3 different varieties we were able to achieve a good result. This in addition to the fruit acids of the raspberries & cherries. The acids of the old lambic also provide a diversity of the acid pallet.
The blend is certainly not extremely acidic in terms of mouthfeel, you maybe should expect this from the explanation. This is partly due to the use of a soft lambic.
The name of this blend originated with the magician Raspoetin, who certainly experimented with oxalic acid in his time. Malina he meets is Russian for raspberry, which masks the danger with a seductive aroma.

11 September 2021. At Summer Belgian Beer Geek Gathering. Many thanks, Klaas & Liesbeth, cheers to the whole crew!

Vintage 2018. Hazy red, small, pink head. Aroma of cherry, raspberry, blueberry, lemon, rhubarb, vinegar. Taste has sour cherry & blueberry with lemony & lactic acid notes, bit funky, earthy rhubarb over soft doughy maltiness. Tart, acidic, red-fruity finish, funky raspberry & rhubarb. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Sharp but stylish.

Pours clear, dark pink. Scent is raw / Tad green , fruity. Taste is sharp, tart, dry, herbal raspberry. Mild rhubarb, hidden cherry. Nice, but not the fresh, fruity raspberry I strongly prefer .

Bottle @ Belgian Summer Gathering Sept' 21, Evergem. Anno 2018, Bottled 10/07/2020 ?

Very bright from the geuze and the sour cherry. Raspberry and rhubarb notes balance it perfectly.
