23/XI/21 - 33cl bottle, shared @ HoReCa Expo (Gent), BB: n/a (2021-1496) Thanks to the Ghent beer posse for sharing today’s beers!
Clear orange blond beer, big creamy white head, stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: malty, grains, hay, some cow fodder, corn, lots of grains, hay. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: pretty watery, grains, some citrus, malty, cow fodder, pretty bitter, grains, pretty grassy finish.
Medium, lightly yellowish stable head over fully hazy yellow beer. Pale malts, faintly spicy, herbal. Hint at white candi sugar. Pale malts again, sweetish with a short bitterness that is a bit hoppy and certainly spicy. Whether this is juniper, I cannot identify, but that is quite possible. The bitterness doesn't last, but returns with every sip. Feels vividly carbonated, medium bodied, slick, and rather refreshing. Certainly better than average. Likeable.
33cl bottle from E.Leclerc Pierry supermarket in France. F: medium, white, good retention. C: gold, hazy. A: malty, floral, spicy, light fruity. T: medium malty base, spicy, herbal, dry bitterness, bit citrus, yeasty touch, juniper, medium carbonation, ok, drinkable.
17 July 2020. At Gaston, the rooftop bar in Ghent. Cheers to the 'Savaan' group! Pours hazy golden with a thick, frothy, white head. Aroma of wheat, banana peel, apple, kitchen herbs, lemon, juniper, breadcrust. Taste has sweetish estery apple & banana, mixing well with a sour wheat & juniper profile, a bit spicy underneath, accent of bready malt. Sour wheaty, yellow fruity finish, gentle grassy hoppiness. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Released shortly after the lockdown in Belgium began, this beer is advertised as a refreshing 'everyone's friend' (what else is new), apparently commissioned by spirit distiller & distributor Bruggeman in Ghent. I appreciate the juniper twist and I've nothing against it as a whole, but there is nothing revolutionary about it.
