Pours as dark as a fine red wine. Smell is full, overly intense cherry. Taste is tart, rather sharp, super smoth, cherry juice. Very intense !
Bottle @ the source. Ruby red color. Cherry clearly present, but also lots of new oak. Dry, moderately sour, only some sweetness from the cherries. Hint of marzipan. Top class!
Purple. Broad berry note, a hint metal, balsamic, ., light almond, vanilla, dry tart, balanced by fruit sweetness, a hint copper, vanilla and berry acid finish. Interesting.
The most limited of the new Spelingen van het Lot bij 3 Fonteinen, a cherry lambic made with 'Schaarbeekse krieken', on toasted barrels; 170 bottles only, the 'pure' product, also used in blendings with others. In its pure form, this Schaarbeekse cherry lambic pours an incredibly intense wine red colour, almost black from a distance, but with a beautiful deep lilac glow to it, under a very thin, open, disrupted ring of beautifully purple bubbles. Unfathomably deep and rich nose of cherry essence, cherry wine, almond, ruby port, cooked blackberries, Japanese wine berries, marzipan, red wine vinegar, Syrah wine, vanilla from the oak, cookies. The flavour is equally intense, a very thick and deep cherry essence, bursting ripe black cherries but obviously with the typical overall tartness of 'krieken', all amplified, in a soft, vinous, very softly carbonated environment; wheaty slickness carries this massively thick cherry structure onwards to a dry, tannic finish where almond-, port- and blackberry-like aspects linger along with a vanilla touch and, unsurprisingly, a ton of intense, red-black cherry richness that never goes away. This one left me and the other tasters flabbergastered: arguably the best cherry lambic I ever had the honour to sample, and one of the best lambics so far for me 'tout court' - a near perfect score seems only logical. Unforgettable - and to think I tasted this heavenly liquid not once, not twice, but three times - thanks to Filip for that on Wednesday and to Jan on Saturday. This is about the highest level any beer can achieve, but with lambic, the sky is the limit as far as I'm concerned so who knows, maybe next time the young generation of Zotte Kadeeën at 3 Fonteinen comes up with something even more impressive...
Nice blood red, very sweet, nice tart cherries, wood, oak, port, extremely fruity, some ‘cinnamon’, deep and very complex, fantastic Purchased at Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen & lambik-O-droom
0,75l from bottle at lambic o droom. Bottled 04/04/2018. Brown color, no head. Smells quite musty at first, then nice cherry smell, some wood, toasty, very nice smell. Full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. Tastes rather dry intense cherries, wood, bit lactic, marzipan, nutty, cherry skin, bit jammy. Finishes quite dry and medium sour with notes of cherries, cherry skin and some lactic notes. Very nice one, intense cherry notes, almost a bit too dry for me. Very good one though 8, 4, 9, 4, 17
