Hazy yellow colour with strong carbonation and big fluffy head. It really delivers on its promise. Lots of lime freshness and pleasantly hoppy. A little dry but not overly bitter. Very easy to drink.

44cl can from the brewery. F: medium, white, quick gone. C: blonde, hazy. A: nice fresh fruity, tangerine, bit pineapple, lime. T: medium malty base, light tangerine, pineapple, lime, lemongrass, bit wheat, nice fresh fruity feeling, medium carbonation, almost bit like NEIPA for me, very nice balanced, fully enjoyed.

Pours unclear blonde, medium soapy white head fades rather fast. Scent is intense fruity (mango, pineapple. Lime is surprisingly low on intensity. Taste is full, intense hops, mild bitterness. Very fruity. both wheat and lime aren't very expressive, to my surprise . pretty nice , easy drinking hoppy beer.

Can from Geers. Hazy yellow, quickly thinning, white head. Aroma of lime peel, freshly cut mandarins, wheat, hand soap & bath foam, pineapple, lemongrass, young yellow apple. Taste has sweet mandarin, yellow apple & sour lime going hand in hand, slightly lemony & actually wheaty which gives the bready malt a sourdough-like effect. Very slightly bitter in the finish then thanks to some floral hops, a pinch of pepper perhaps, whilst ethereal lime & lemon linger. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Enjoyable take on the classic Wit but definitely surpassing that style in its execution - and the expectations I have of it.

11/V/21 - 44cl can from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ home (Ghent), BB: 1/X/21 (2021-380)

Little cloudy pale yellow beer, big fluffy aery white head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: quite some tropical fruits, pineapple, citrus, grapefruit, floral notes, very zesty. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: lots of grapefruit, pretty soapy bitterness, quite some pineapple, zesty, nice and very refreshing. Aftertaste: very zesty, fruity, pineapples, bit piny, minty, grassy, herbal, dank hops, resinous, lemony touch, bitter finish. Very nice one!

New BBP beer, made in collaboration with trusted craft brewer Northern Monk in northern England, delivered in 'Anglo-Saxon' 44 cl cans. Apparently intended as an elaboration on the old Belgian witbier theme, resurrected by Pierre Celis in the sixties, but being brewed with both malted and unmalted wheat (even torrified wheat) and oat flakes, hopped with Citra and Sabro and flavoured with lime, I think it has become sufficiently far removed from the old Hoegaarden standard to be categorized as an American style wheat ale instead - but I'll leave this open to discussion among the admins. Off-white, moussy, irregular, somewhat loose and quickly breaking head, settling as an irregular yet steady ring over a cloudy ochre-tinged straw blonde beer. Aroma of indeed lime zest (but not so much lime juice), soap, unripe pineapple, green banana, fresh raw parsnip, something very faintly smoky that I cannot quite put my finger on, green kiwi, oxidized Granny Smith apple slices, hints of Key lime (not so much the pie though), lemonbalm, meringue without the sweetness. Sweetish and sourish, quite lively onset, lime juice more noticeable now but instead of effectuating true acidity, gently surrounding a vaguely sweetish core of unripe pineapple, green apple and green banana; lively carbonation but fine-bubbled, lots of minerality, supple body. Slick wheatiness, a bit sourish (merging with the lime effect) and softly soapy, cereally barley too, bit bready; this yellowish-green lime aspect travels along and persists until the very end, with more citrusiness developing in the finish - ending quite refreshing, with this soft lemongrassy hop bitter 'kiss' and lasting minerality and breadiness. Pleasantly refreshing, I would even recommend serving this ice cold on a hot summer day; as usual with BBP, their best beers happen when an external brewery comes in, but that does not take away the fact that this 'Three Sins' is original and well-executed. I think it is a clever idea to replace the old 'musty' curaçao by fresh lime zest and lime juice, but coriander seed is another classic 'pillar' of witbier flavour and nothing happened there - why not replace that by some or other exotic spice too? The wheat sourishness is clear enough here and does merge with the lime quite efficiently, but I maintain that I do not get a 'witbier' feel here, rather a postmodern Anglo-Saxon wheat ale feel, if you get my grip. All things considered: pleasantly quenching, I wonder what the late Pierre Celis would have made of this...
