Can at home. Opaque dark brown color, full sized thick dark brown colored head. Aroma is malts, soft roast, sweetish coffee, bitter espresso. Flavor is malts, malt bitters, coffee / espresso, coffee roast bitterness. Dark chocolate in the background maybe. At first lacking a bit of oily texture but that gets there after a while. Lingering bitterness and a slight boozy touch in the finish. Quite nice. 9-7,5-8-7-8
Pours like, erm, motor oil, pitch black, and a brown head with fair retention. Aroma's of roasted malt, dark fudge, some red fruit. Retronasal it's coffee, chocolate, roast, fudge, boozy. Flavour is above moderate sweet with a nice roasty bitterness. Full bodied. Long finish, roasty, bitterish.
440ml can. Pitch black, small brown head. Aroma of coffee, espresso, dark chocolate. Taste is very rich, roasty, loads of coffee, dark chocolate. Booze quite well hidden. Full bodied.
Shared at home. Pours out thick black from the can making it clear how it got its name forming a small beige head in the glass. Aroma of rich coffee and roast, dark chocolate, soy, caramel, boozy alcohol notes and licorice. Flavour is heavy sweet and bitter. Full bodied with a thicker than average texture, alcohol warmth and soft carbonation. As Maarten says, much better than the relentless pastry stuff coming out these days.
Can at the Maakun’s. Dark brown with tan head. Sweet deep roasted chocolate malts, soy sauce, coffee. Sweet, salty chocolate balls. Over medium body and soft carb. Motoroil Manis. Nice wis rice.
Can shared. Black with brown head. Sweet sugary grains, massive coffee, earthy roast, licorice, blackberries, soy sauce, lots of toffee. Nice deep roasted coffee without being too bitter or earthy, just nutty and fruity roasted coffee. Solid sweet and over medium bitter. Full creamy body. Nice stuff, way better than some pastry shit.
Pitch black pour with a tall, fine-grained tan head with decent retention. Notes of roasted malt, roasted coffee, smoke, licorice, some soy sauce. Smooth texture, low carbonation and a really bitter and roasty finish.
