PX sherry barrel Kriek

This Oude Kriek was macerated with sour cherries for almost eleven months. The lambikken used while macerating were both one- and two-year old. We also used one-, two- and three-year old lambikken from (slightly peated) sherry barrels to blend the sour cherry lambik into a Kriek. By doing so, the weighted average age of this Kriek is a tad less than two-and-a-half years upon release. Final fruit intensity of 354 grams per litre of Kriek. 100% 3 Fonteinen.

25-02-22 // late night birthday party share. High acidity. I like the Gueuze Geturfd more.

0,75l bottle at home. BB 26.10.2040. dark red color, small white head. smells cherries, bit leathery, marzipan, light underlying smoke notes, spices, cinnamon, bit rubbery, rather nice smell. full body, soft carbonation. tastes of cherries, marzipan, bit leathery, burned rubbery, spices, lactic sour, bit grassy. finishes rather on the dry side with light to medium sourness and notes of cherries, bit of smoke and grass notes. more on the dry / sour side, not overly complex, the smoke notes are noticeable and balanced, but imo they do not necessarily improve the beer. Overall good and drinkable.

Much like the original versions, not sure any PX profiles were transferred at all. A great beer, but sadly hard to love when the defining characteristic is not present.

11 September 2021. At Summer Belgian Beer Geek Gathering. Many thanks, Klaas & Liesbeth, cheers to the whole crew!

Season 19/20, No° 75. Hazy red, thin, pink head. Aroma of sour cherry, sherry, balsamico, wood, red grape. Taste has very sour cherry, plum, grape & grape peel, vinegar & lemon acid. Very acidic finish with woody tannins & sherry. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Nice Kriek with a 'twist' but no peat for me.

Thnx to 77ships ! Pours hazed pinkred. Small white head. Scent is intense, cherries - almost more like sweet cherries (kers) than sour ones (kriek). Taste is full, cherry, candy-like cherry aroma - yet not sweet. PX is fully lost to me (shame) , and so is the peat - untill the late aftertaste. Very decent kriek, but the barrel profile is very tuned down .

Taste: sourish start, lots of cherries, very nice, some lamonds, very acidic, lemony, funky, lots of brett, nice and complex, lovely beer! Aftertaste: tannins, pretty bitter, very bitter, lots of cherries, nice stuff, very good!
